Restaurant or campsite – or just a place where you shouldn’t eat?
The Kammerslusen is picturesque right out, where the collars turn – with postcard views for cows chewing droves in slow motion, and marsklam, which is said to taste of “fresh grass with a touch of sea salt”. It sounds almost like Michelin stuff... until you sit down at Restaurant Kammerslusen.
Here the staff seems more busy scrolling through Facebook on the bar's computer than welcoming guests. After a round of whining and coughing we finally managed to get in touch and we were shown to a table. The waitress kindly promised to wipe away the remains from the previous guests’ lunch – which was done with a cloth that had obviously experienced more tables than a confirmation party. Without twisting, of course. Hygiene in the rustic, rural way.
The menu card? A greatest hits from a highway grill: burger, egg cake, starshot. On the website, they proudly promise: “The lunch card is composed of well-known dishes with a twist... around the good taste, with both legs on the ground.” When a restaurant feels the need to emphasize that the salad is fresh, it is usually a sign that they have greater challenges in the kitchen than just marketing.
We bet on the egg cake and it came in record time – ten minutes! A sensation in the world of egg cakes, where even happy amateurs like us know that a real egg cake requires at least half an hour of love. The suspicion of frozen goods from a nationwide wholesaler for large kitchens was difficult to shake off. The result: a dry, two-piece egg cake, served on top of an indifferent piece of rye bread and topped with a little randomly chopped chicken onions. As a garnish: a colossal bunch of cherry tomatoes, ice-colder than my mother-in-law's eye and directly from the fridge's vegetable drawer.
When the bill had to be paid, the eye contact drama repeated itself. Eventually we succeeded, but we left with a clear feeling of having visited a tourist trap disguised as a restaurant. The parking lot confirmed the picture – three out of four cars were German.
Conclusion: Half-year-old food, unengaged service and a restaurant that appears more identity-confused than a 14-year-old in post-school. Restaurant? Campingplads? Or just a place where you should just have a dish – and enjoy the views of the many different models of campers on the parking lot.

Great location with ok food
The restaurant has a great location by the river and the Kammerslusen, and the surroundings outside clearly pull up. The outdoor environment is cozy and welcoming – perfect for a lunch in good weather. Inside, the mood is more neutral and quite ordinary, with nothing special to notice.
We got Starshot and Sluseburger for lunch. Both dishes were okay – there was nothing wrong with the food, but it was also not something that made an impression. It all seemed quite ordinary and without edges.
Compared to the experience, the prices seem too high. The location pulls up, but the food doesn't live up to the price level. A nice place for an excursion or a gathering of several generations, but not a place you must return to for the sake of gastronomy.

Nice lunch outside
We had lunch outside in one of the stalls. It was really nice to sit with views over the stream in nice weather. We got both eggcake, burger, starshot and pariser steak. The food failed nothing but unfortunately did not fall so much in our song.

Moderate for the price
We slept in the suite (room 1) which has private bathroom, living space, kitchen, bedroom.
Other rooms use the 2 bathrooms in the hallway.
The suite was spacious. Not clean. Hair everywhere (couch) and also the kitchen not - properly - cleaned. Everything stuck. Since dogs are allowed, I'm afraid they were dog hair.
On the large balcony we could not sit. There are swallow nests above and everything is covered in bird droppings. Also the garden furniture.
Breakfast is sober.
The complex also has a campsite for campers, which are located under and next to the balcony. Not a nuisance. Do you want or can you sit on the balcony then little privacy. Few towels. Taken myself out of the pantry which happened to be open.
Restaurant offers good cuisine. Pretty expensive!
Please note that they offer 2 and 3 course menu for certain dishes. Take that, really close. But be alert at checkout. With us the dishes were still separately on the invoice so much more expensive. While we had pointed out clear menu 2 courses. We didn't fall for it. Discussion of, but recalculated.
