Thank you for the warm welcome!

An unforgettable evening at Château de Bénais. The owner welcomed us into a place that is, quite literally, being brought back to life around us — and that is exactly what makes it so special. Dining here is not "going to a restaurant." It is being invited into someone's passion project, hearing the stories of the stones, the vines and the restoration work in progress, and sharing a meal in a setting that feels almost suspended in time.
The closest comparison we could find was a safari dinner in pure nature — that same sense of being somewhere extraordinary, slightly off the map, where the surroundings are as much part of the experience as the plate in front of you. The hospitality is genuine, the atmosphere is unlike anything we have done in the Loire, and we left feeling we had been part of something rare. If you are looking for the usual château-hotel dinner, go elsewhere. If you want a memory, come here.
Thank you for opening your doors while still in the middle of the work — that's part of the magic.

Certainly does not deserve its stars.

I booked based on the information gathered from the website directly, by phone. A beautiful green park with a nicely mowed lawn, a promise of a gourmet restaurant, the possibility of relaxation massages, in short, mouthwatering and in a building exuding a lot of charm. And after more than 3 weeks of follow-up, I realize that I should not have insisted.
Upon arrival, the park is neglected, filled with tall yellowed grass, and the so-called paths are rocky and poorly designed. The manager greets us in shorts (Gerulaitis) and flip-flops. In the evening, there is no gourmet restaurant, but rather wrought-iron tables under a handful of trees to enjoy a supermarket flank steak (I saw the polystyrene tray with the barcode) and half an eggplant on the grill for the modest sum of 64 euros for 2 people.
Ah, breakfast! ("you will see, sweet and savory, local products," we are told).
In fact, there is a coffee machine that serves a long coffee in 12 minutes, and a 20-minute wait to get a quarter of a baguette and some hot milk, and as for savory, a pitiful plate containing 6 slices of dry sausage, as much chorizo??? and 2 slices of country ham, barely enough to roll 2 cigarettes.
Ah, yes! The staff is helpful, responds to our requests, with varying degrees of promptness and competence.
In short, greatly disappointed for a 2-night weekend that should have been idyllic.
Who gave this establishment 4 stars? It is pathetic. Do not go there.
