OUR STAY AT THE MAISON PROVENCE

Me and my boyfriend chose Maison Provence for our stay a few days ago and we can say it was totally worth it! Everything was clean, staff was super attentive, especially Boqi at breakfast! Breakfast itself was one of the best we ever had at a hotel (even better that 5* hotels we have stayed at). Huge variety and fresh. We want to come back whenever we get the chance!

ONE OF THE WORST AND MOST DISGUSTING HOTEL EXPERIENCES WE HAVE EVER HAD

We arrived, checked in, took a quick shower and left for dinner. When we returned and opened the bed, we were absolutely disgusted to discover that the bed sheets appeared not to have been changed. There were hairs in the bed.
Let that sink in: a hotel charging more than €800 per night handed us a room where we found hairs in the bed and bedding that appeared to have been used by previous guests.
This is not a small oversight. This is a fundamental failure of hygiene and one of the most basic responsibilities of any hotel.
But unbelievably, the way we were treated afterwards was arguably even worse.
The Portuguese receptionist on duty was completely unhelpful and behaved in a dismissive and disrespectful manner towards my wife, who was understandably extremely upset. Instead of showing empathy, apologising sincerely, or desperately trying to find a solution to such an embarrassing situation, his attitude made us feel as though we were the problem for complaining.
The manager was contacted and her response was equally shocking: no solution.
No proper alternative.
No meaningful attempt to fix the situation.
No accountability.
And when we asked for a refund, the answer was simply NO.
The excuse we were given was so absurd that it deserves to be mentioned publicly.
The previous year, we had been unable to travel because of the war in Lebanon, our home country. The hotel had agreed to postpone our reservation and apparently considered this such an extraordinary act of generosity that, one year later, management actually used it as an argument for refusing to refund us after we found dirty, apparently unchanged bedding.
What exactly does a reservation postponed because of a WAR have to do with a hotel failing to provide clean sheets?
Absolutely nothing.
A hotel does not earn the right to ignore basic hygiene standards because it previously accommodated a guest during a force majeure situation.
The logic is astonishing.
For more than €800 per night, we were not asking for champagne, an upgrade or special treatment.
We were asking for a clean bed.
Apparently, even that was too much to expect.
What is even more concerning is that after our experience, we noticed several other reviews mentioning hygiene issues. This naturally raises serious concerns about whether what happened to us was truly an isolated incident.
Mistakes can happen in any hotel. A professional establishment immediately apologises, takes responsibility and does everything possible to correct the situation.
Here, we experienced the exact opposite: dirty bedding, an unhelpful and disrespectful receptionist, a manager offering no solution, no meaningful accountability, and finally an attempt to use the war in our home country as an excuse for refusing a refund.
The arrogance and complete lack of hospitality were honestly breathtaking.
Charging luxury-hotel prices does not make a hotel luxurious.
Luxury begins with impeccable cleanliness, professional service, respect for guests and competent management. Based on our experience, this hotel failed spectacularly on all four.
We left feeling disgusted, disrespected and frankly astonished that an establishment charging these prices could handle such a serious situation so poorly.
More than €800 per night, and we could not even trust that our bed linen was clean.
That sentence alone says everything.
An absolutely disgraceful experience and a hotel I would strongly advise others to think very carefully about before booking.
