An unforgettable stay

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Arctic for three nights in June as part of my 40th birthday trip to Greenland. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel — two nights in a superior room and one in an aurora cabin.
The superior room was spacious, but was very warm although the bed was so comfortable we slept really well despite the temperature. The aurora cabin was a fun experience — falling asleep to the sound of wind and waking up to icebergs was incredible. There was a mini fridge that had some chocolate bars, drinks and sandwiches, and a shower room with nice products. The privacy curtain was around the lower part of the cabin, so during the midnight sun time I’d recommend taking an eye mask if you’re a light sleeper.
We had dinner at the hotel twice, which was excellent, and breakfast here was also great. The staff were lovely and very helpful in answering questions and ordering us taxis.
The walk into town was around half an hour on some roads without pavements, and we noticed people were driving pretty fast here so we just got taxis everywhere. The system for this is fantastic — you order a car, the staff tells you what number taxi to look for and it turns up less than five minutes later. All the taxis took card payment and it was about £8 into central Ilulissat each time. A really wonderful stay.

The facilities of this hotel are pretty good, but unfortunately when we entered the hotel room there were two Parisians flying around near the window ~ Blurred chain / telephone / refrigerator / towels OK / coffee cup 2 cups / glass cups 2 rooms in the beach / hotel to book a tour as convenience / rooms are usually in size

Best room with a view

Title: Exceptional location; service does not match the 4-star superior classification
Positives: The Aurora cabin is outstanding — a full glass front with an unobstructed panorama over Disko Bay, immaculately clean and intelligently designed. The setting is among the finest I have encountered, and it is the sole reason I will return.
Negatives: The property’s 4-star superior classification creates expectations the service does not meet. The operating model is essentially self-service. Check-in was lengthy and inflexible: my stay consisted of three separate last-minute reservations for a single chalet, and the front desk struggled to consolidate them, while the absence of a concierge meant the process was repeatedly interrupted by other guests. Luggage transfer to the cabins is left to guests, without clear instruction. Amenities were provided once, despite the three bookings. Adjust expectations regarding service and the location will more than compensate.

stunning views; service without a smile

The views from this hotel were spectacular - if you had a nice room with a good view. If not, then there's nothing much to recommend this hotel. There was a sense of customer management rather than customer care. Most of the reception staff seemsed to be Danes with the managers seeming to be somewhere off site available by phone call. Most of the cleaning staff seemed to be Greenlanders and looked depressed. I'm not sure how well they were paid. There were two wodnerful exceptions: Axel on recption and Ulla, one of the cleaners - both lovely, warm and very helpful. The restaurant was OK although their approach was again to see guests as opportunities for income generation. The hotel would have benefited from having a sauna/spa as it was supposedly 4 star. There was af requent and useful shuttle bus.

The hotel location is beautiful and access to the city center where most of the tours start is a 20 -25 min walk, a taxi ride or the city bus. They do provide a free airport shuttle.
The staff was minimally helpful and customer service isn't their niche. Breakfast didn't match the class of the hotel. The restaurant did serve fantastic dishes and a buffet, both excellent. Service can definitely see improvement. Overall a 3/5.
