Old world charm and beauty.

Our stay at Hotel Olivedo was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. From the moment we arrived, we felt as though we had stepped back into the elegance and charm of old-world Italy. This is not a modern chain hotel—it is a place with history, character, and soul.
What makes Hotel Olivedo especially unique is that it has remained in the same family for generations. That legacy is evident in every detail, from the warm hospitality to the care taken in preserving the hotel's timeless beauty.
Ti Ti, in particular, made us feel more like welcomed guests than tourists. Her kindness, warmth, and attention to detail were exceptional. She went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and even coordinated a driver for our return trip to Milan Airport, making our departure stress-free and seamless. Her personal attention exemplified the genuine hospitality that makes this hotel so special.
The hotel is full of old-world charm, with beautiful architecture, classic furnishings, and an atmosphere that captures the romance of a bygone era. At the same time, it is impeccably maintained, comfortable, and inviting.
The location is outstanding. Our room had spectacular views of the lake and mountains. Varenna is absolutely enchanting. Whether strolling through the village, relaxing by the water, or simply gazing across the lake, every moment felt magical. It is difficult to imagine a more beautiful setting.
Breakfast each morning was delicious and provided the perfect start to the day with a wonderful assortment of Italian pastries, fruits, meats, and cheeses with other items made to order.
Hotel Olivedo offers something increasingly rare: an authentic Italian experience rooted in tradition, family, and hospitality. We left with wonderful memories and a deep appreciation for this special place.
We would definitely return to Hotel Olivedo and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Varenna and Lake Como. It was excellent in every way and an unforgettable part of our Italian adventure.

They were disrespectful and rude, tried to scam me, the room was dirty, cobweb-filled, cold and neglected, and there was no internet connection.

Our 2-day room reservation for June 2nd and 3rd, 2026, was made through Booking.com for a room in a small annex building slightly behind the main hotel. The air temperature was 17 degrees Celsius during the day and 14 degrees Celsius at night due to rain and storm (we have included photos of the weather conditions for that day in the attachment). When we entered the room, we told the young male staff member that it was very cold, but he said the air conditioning wasn't working and told us to warm ourselves with blankets. We went back to the room, and because it was so cold we were afraid of getting sick, we couldn't even take a shower and we were freezing even with just blankets in the room. We went back to reception and told the staff member that they could find a portable heater or some other solution, and that the internet wasn't working, but the staff member didn't offer any solution. He said the internet wasn't working because of the storm and rain, but when we went to another restaurant just 10 meters from the hotel to eat pizza at the same time, that restaurant had a perfectly good internet connection. Because the hotel failed to provide the necessary facilities and took responsibility for the situation, and because they treated the customer rudely, we requested that they cancel our reservation for the following day and refund the money for the day we would not be staying. Initially, the young male officer refused, then a more senior, middle-aged woman arrived, and after explaining the situation to her, they agreed.
We went back to the room and slept in sweaters that night, but we were still cold. Upon closer inspection, I found cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling and dampness on the walls; the interior was unpainted, only plastered, neglected, and dirty. There was only sheer fabric, not even curtains. In a hotel like this, where breakfast and one night costs an average of 22,000 TL, a room that is so neglected, dirty, without internet, and has heating problems is not worth that price.
We stayed for one night and when we went to the lobby the next morning to check out, we asked the same female employee why our refund hadn't been processed yet. The woman said she wouldn't refund the money for the next day, since we wouldn't be staying. He didn't keep his word. We objected, but they didn't accept it. We argued for 10 minutes. "There are seven families here, are you the only ones feeling cold?" he said.
But the other families stayed in the main building, so it was warm there. The annex we stayed in had empty floors above and below, so it was cold, neglected, and abandoned; it was only two stories high anyway. When we said it wasn't clean and there were cobwebs, they didn't believe us. When we offered to go and check the room together, they didn't trust us and didn't come. He raised his voice, slammed his hand on the table, and adopted an unpleasant attitude and tone. They tried to deceive and defraud us. When the argument dragged on and we threatened to file a complaint and leave a negative review, they were forced to return it. We definitely do not recommend it!!!

Dear Hilal, Thank you for your review. The room has been during all your stay at 21 degrees temperature given the 16 degrees oustide because of the bad weather day in the month of June. Commonly 21 degrees is the temperature set in all the rooms or even lower. Our establishment is known for the high level of hospitality, there are clearly a few misunderstanding given the fact that all the comunication had taken place via a translator since our staff unfortunately speaks only english, italian, french and german. The room and the city tax has been refundend for the day that you left. Thank you

Fabulous break away

What a warm welcome from Hotel Olivedo. So helpful and friendly. We very much appreciated the fluffy towels when we got caught in the storm!
Breakfast was very nice and we loved the location. Room 22 had a spectacular view from our balcony and we enjoyed watching the ferries coming and going. Our room was clean and spacious.
We also enjoyed eating in the hotel restaurant.
Would highly recommend- thank you for a great holiday

The Perfect Place for a Lake Como vacation

This was our first trip to Varenna and we chose Hotel Olivedo based on reviews, location and value. And...Wow! It exceeded our expectations at all levels. It is an older boutique hotel right on the Lake. So, the rooms and furniture are older. But, we loved the charm. You could not ask for a better location...5 minutes from the train and right at the Ferry Terminal (though we were not disturbed by the crowds below at all). Our room on the third floor with balcony was perfect. Loved looking out over the lake as well as watching all the types of people below. Breakfast was great....But above everything else was the service we received from the family: Titi, Martina and Luigi...I won't go into the story...but they went above and beyond to assist us with receiving and diverting a package delivery that came in after we had left. We are so happy that we stayed in Varenna...and would choose nowhere else to stay in the future but the Hotel Olivedo. Gracie!

Great option for Varenna

Really great location. At first thought it would be noisy at night but it’s not as the day trippers are gone early evening. Hotel is old fashion in appearance but that gives it such charm. Breakfast is worth inclusion and whilst a 7-8min walk to the centre of Varenna, what a pleasant walk that is and never tiring.
