Fabulous

Excellent team; if you are looking for a chill place in an 80s surf camp vibe filled with surf books, this is the place. The dishes are excellent; nothing to complain about. I was able to surf F1 all alone with a super nice surf guide who taught me a lot. I hope to return soon with friends.

Great Guesthouse, but Disappointing Island and Unprofessional Management

We originally planned a 9-day stay at EQ Surf Retreat but checked out after only 4. While the guesthouse itself has some highlights, the island of Muli is not equipped for a pleasant tourist stay, and the management's attitude was unprofessional.
​The Positives:
- ​The Guesthouse & Staff: The house is very clean and well-kept. - The local staff members are helpful and do their best.
- ​The Food: Honestly, the food was great—no complaints there.
​The Reality of Muli Island:
​If you are looking for the "Maldives dream," this isn't it. The island offers almost nothing—just one local shop and one restaurant.
​- The Beach Situation: We fully understand and respect the local culture regarding dress codes (shoulders to knees covered) on public beaches. However, the designated "Bikini Beach" is an insult to tourists. It is essentially a trash dump with no palm trees or shade. It feels like total disrespect to offer such a filthy area as the only place for guests to swim comfortably.

- Excursions: We went snorkeling and beach viewing; it was a 2/10. The reefs were underwhelming and, once again, the beaches were covered in litter.
​- Nearby Resort Visit: We also tried a day trip to a nearby resort. It cost $100 USD (boat taxi + entrance fee) and was absolutely not worth the money
Management and Refund Policy:
​This was the most disappointing part. When we decided to leave early due to the state of the island, I asked for a partial refund for the 5 unused nights. I was open to a 50% refund, but they only offered a voucher.
​While I understand guesthouse policies, the owner's personal attitude was the dealbreaker. I have a screenshot of the owner stating they "really don't care" about our feedback because they "won't see us anymore." This lack of basic hospitality and professionalism is why I cannot recommend this place.
Bottomline:
Don't waste your time or money here. The guesthouse might be clean, but the island is a disappointment and the management's lack of care is the final nail in the coffin.
