Oaxaca, magic city

A bit on the pricey side but not surprising in a city dependent on tourism. It's centrally located, and the staff are helpful. Staying at the back of the building, I would have preferred a room with more daylight but it was clean and spacious.
Oaxaca is too large to qualify as a "pueblo magico" but it's full of historic attractions and the Zocalo is always lively. In Carnival season in particular there's often something colourful going on. Several of the outlying small towns (Tlacolula, Ocotlan) are well worth a visit,

Good location and price

Stayed for one night prior to flying home. The hotel is central, a very nice interior, very clean and very hospitable staff. The rooms are on the small side as per previous reviews, however not too small. Would recommend as a good basic accommodation and would stay again for the price. Nice little roof terrace also to enjoy.

Great Price and Service

I loved the attention the staff gave me during my stay at the hotel. They were very helpful giving me directions and great suggestions for places to eat and visit. Location was great and we walk to every where from there. We went to another market close to the hotel that was more geared towards the locals. My only complaint will be the size of the bathroom. Tiny in comparison to bathrooms in USA.

Seems clean and well cared-for BUT ...

This seems like such a nice place. Simple but well cared-for rooms. Really nicely constructed and decorated, nice paint, tile, and wood trim. Pretty lobby with several seating spaces. Smart and helpful desk staff (Odillia). Everything was super clean. I paid a little more than 900 pesos including tax and thought it was pretty good.
I moved into the first room and quickly found that the air con did not work. (It's not hot in Oaxaxa but the room had no windows and needed some AC.) After staff fiddled with the AC for a while she offered me a different room. Ok, but it was considerably smaller, also no windows - no payment rebate, but ok I guess. The bathroom was tiny - the door wouldn't open all the way because it hit the toilet. You have to close the door to use the toilet. I would also find that the TV did not work - no signal. You have to run the shower for a solid 15 minutes before hot water comes. The shower curtain is hung WAY to far inside the shower that you have to lean into it to get your body wet -- ick. And the shower tile grout was covered with black mildew and needed repair.
There are lots of hotels in Oaxaca - I'd try another one next time.

traditional style, cozy, comfy a little awkward

the courtyard pictured is in the middle of the hotel. the windows there are the windows to the rooms so it's a little weird. the curtains barely cover the window otherwise i wouldn't have minded. caution of the bathroom! as soon as you open the door it goes immediately into steps down-don't fall! inexpensive though so totally worth it, and only 2 blocks away from the zocalo (main part of town with shops and restaurants). and tons of markets around. we were in the 1st room, literally. not a lot of steps but no elevator and they were super helpful bringing our things in. double beds were comfy-slept well despite the windows/doors facing directly into the courtyard (better then no windows). they were all super helpful and everyone very nice. we paid half day rate for late checkout at 7pm and thee still completely service the room, including the 2 free water bottles. Has free covered parking, GREAT free wi-fi, and this cool rooftop terrace. would definitely come back, for a day and a half it was a great experience. maybe next time pay for the higher floor even though there is no elevator, they are always willing to help with bags.
