Clean Beds, Cold Drinks, and Warm People!

Had a great stay at Wohnzimmer Essen in October 2024! The place was super clean, and the service was top-notch—staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The bar downstairs was a real highlight—great vibe, good drinks, and an awesome crew running it. Would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful

My stay was absolutely perfect! The hotel is super clean and in a perfect location. The staff and owner truly went above and beyond to make us feel safe and welcome; they were incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout our entire visit.
The location is a major plus, with plenty of great places to eat nearby. Public transport is exceptionally convenient,

Good overall experience

I had a pleasant stay at the hostel. The room was clean and tidy, and the common areas were well maintained. What stood out the most was the reception staff they were very friendly and always willing to help, which made the stay more comfortable. The location is convenient, with tram stops nearby that connect quickly to the city center. Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend it if you're looking for a functional place to stay in Essen.

Very cute hostel. Clean rooms and the staff is too friendly. The location is perfect since the tram stop is on the corner. It has two well-equipped kitchens, this is very much appreciated and a beautiful garden where you can rest on sunny days.

Bad attitude

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at this hostel was truly disappointing. The biggest issue was the owner’s attitude — completely lacking in manners and any sense of hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I was met with coldness and unwelcoming behavior.
It felt like guests were seen as a nuisance rather than customers. When I asked for basic information or assistance, the responses were rude and dismissive. There was no effort to create a friendly or helpful atmosphere, which is essential in the hospitality industry.
The facilities were acceptable, but it's hard to enjoy your stay when the host clearly has no interest in making guests feel comfortable or respected. I would not recommend this place to anyone who values good service and a welcoming environment.
