We loved everything about this property! Our apartment was spacious and the kitchen had practically everything we needed. The surroundings were beautiful. We were able to walk to a train station and a ferry to cross the river into Schmilka, which was absolutely adorable by the way! Some of the best hiking we have ever done was in the mountains behind the town! We would definitely stay here again! Ansgar, the caretaker, was attentive and lovely! Thank you for everything!

Whoever is looking for a place to stay positioned in the Sandstone Mountains should definitely consider this one!
Dear Ansgar, thank you for the great hospitality and a wonderful place for us to rest in the middle of the trip. We felt so welcome from the moment we arrived!
The accomodation was cosy and comfortable, very clean and had a most special atmosphere. Just near the banks of Elbe and located just 10 minutes of walk from the Hirschmühle S-bahn station.
It was clean, warm and nice accomodation. The host was very friendly and we had some talks regarding different topics.
The downside is only that you wont find any restaurants nearby but you had to cross the Elbe river by taking a free-ferry (15 minutes). The suite was extremely comfortable and well appointed. Once we figured out how to walk to different parts of the elbe sandstone mountains, we realized that the Guesthouse had the perfect location to all points of interest.

Very disappointing accommodation
We looked for a hotel for a two night stay in the exquisite National Park of Reinhardtsdorf - Schoena. The only hotel available in the National Park at the time was the Die Burg Schoena. It was advertised on the Web as a 3 star hotel.
Die Burg Schoena is about a km from the nearest rail station. It is situated in a beautiful part of the park by the river Elbe.
The accommodation is not a hotel or even a guesthouse. It is a very basic style hostel accommodation. The ground floor has large, well furnished and comfortable dining room, play area and a couple of lounges. There is a balcony overlooking the river with a pleasant view. The guest kitchen is used by visitors to prepare/cook their own meals. There maybe 8+ guests wanting/waiting to prepare food/use the kitchen at the same time.
Our bedroom was situated in the attic up about 55 steps, 13 of which were steep steps leading up to our bedroom. The room was very simple with most basic furniture [beds, clothe rail, 1 chair, 1 small table and two bedside tables].
The linen and supplied towels were clean as was the bedroom.
The room had slanting walls making it next to impossible to use the wall socket [had to climb across the bed to reach the socket], to use the bedside tables or reach two of the three windows without knocking your head. The beds looked like up market field beds [metal springs with a mattress on top] . The springs on my bed were very loose and squeaked loudly as soon as the slightest of pressures was applied. When I laid on top of the bed, the squeakiness was completely off the charts. Each time I moved, the springs were so loud, neither I or my son had any sleep during the two nights stay!
Our bedroom had no on suite. We had to climb down 13 steep steps to reach either a WC or the shower room. As if this was not enough, we also had to share both facilities with other guests. The shower room was clean apart from black mould surrounding the bottom edges of the cubicle and the tiles within the cubicle were grubby. There were no toiletries, except liquid soap and hand disinfectant on top of the sink.
The separate WC was very clean.
We spent very little time at the property. The local countryside is quite spectacular and we spent most of the time walking/climbing and visiting fabulous sites.
The couple who run Die Burg Schoena were very friendly and helpful. The property, in my view, was massively overpriced [at £155.00] given the facilities it offers.

Sjældent har vi været et sted med så meget charme. Det sødeste værtspar, som tog imod med åbne arme. Vi fik et hyggeligt værelse med udsigt til en skøn gårdhave med blomster og rindende vand. Huset indeholdt dagligstue, spisestue og køkken og terrasse med udsigt til Elben. Vi kunne bruge køleskab til vores mad. Det var muligt at købe drikkevarer og andre fornødenheder. Huset ligger for enden af en lille idyllisk vej. Der kører tog nede ved Elben, men det generede os ikke. Skønt sted som vi helt klart vil anbefale, hvis man ønsker et autentisk sted at bo.
