Helmsdal Cafe apartment

We have had the pleasure of renting an apartment above the café during our skiing holiday in week 7 and it will certainly not be the last time you do it. It is very centrally located, with a bus stop right opposite, a ski barn, we also found out that you can take piste 49 all the way down to the town - which is a super nice trip down with the kids.

Nice place

Very good and comfortable room. The hole apartment was very clean, excellent and convenient location. Nice view was a bonus. Skibus was just across a street, grocery store is also very close with good value products. There is also pizza and coffee place two steps away.

God value for money

We have stayed at the apartments above the cafe, and we find that they are spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The skibus stops right outside the cafe, and at the end of the day skiing you just take the piste down. Check the cafe’s website on beforehand for parties and avoid rhem as they can be noisy

Superb Klebberstein dinner

A fantastic place to eat with comfortable interior, pleasant decor, helpful attentive staff and a superb speciality dish; the Klebberstein (soapstone)
Just remember that this is a dish that has to be booked the day before, but that is a good idea so you have a chance to build up the necessary appetite
If you have had a Turkish/ Greek/ Arabic meze, or a Spanish tapas then you will be familiar with a table filled with a variety of bowls. The Klebberstein meal presents the diners with plenty to choose from, then at the centre of the table is placed a late iron trivet carrying a block of stone heated to a high temperature. A tray of diced cubed meats is presented, pork, chicken breast and beef in large chunks accompanied by a small ramekin of seasoning. Diners select there meat and place it to sizzle on the stone, chat sip your drinks, and turn the pieces to cook on each side as you nibble on the other offerings and the sauces to accompany them. The chicken and pork were delicious lean cuts, but the beef was absolutely out of this world.

Excellent food and good service

Everything we ordered was excellent. The Moose patties on roasted root vegetables, and Goat cheese burger were great. Star of the show was the Smashed avocado sandwich with chicken. Great service and helpful, friendly advice regarding wine choice. This is the place to eat if you are staying in Hemsedal or just passing through.
