Lovely place

Came up to Oamaru to visit my friend and stayed here for three nights. Stayed in the dorm which I ended having all to myself as no one else showed up. The room was cozy, bed was comfy and the staff were wonderful, I would highly recommend staying here

So disappointed

Having stayed at this backpackers 2 years ago, I was happy to book again. Now wish I hadn't. The place is in need of some real TLC. The roof looks like it is about to fall down, the thin strips of wood holding up the ceiling tiles up didn't help. The ripped, dirty looking carpet upstairs in the kitchen did nothing to inspire a sense of being clean. The bedroom was adequate and clean, until we checked the room to make sure we were not leaving anything behind. Imagine my surprise to find a bra and a book. The games room down in the 'dungeon' was also in disrepair. The pool table had a surface you couldn't play on because of the rips.

Central and affordable

Friendly service, spotlessly clean, comfortable rooms, although an extra heater maybe needed when the weather is freezing. The bed was comfy and had an electric blanket. The bathroom was clean, shower was great.

Upstairs Downstairs

A lovely good value venue in a great location. The staff treated us with real warmth and the 2 kitchens make it very easy to cook and dine. Close to Countdown and great onsite parking, room was small but bed was warm.Lovely log fire downstairs, good vibes.

It was fine

Pretty standard hostel. Use the upstairs kitchen. We used the downstairs which was a mistake because the fridge was jam packed with the owner's and staff food. But upstairs looked fine. Good shower. Good location.
