A small, friendly hotel

A small, friendly hotel about ten minutes walk from the city centre. The staff were really welcoming and keen to make our stay pleasant. Our room was clean and they served a nice simple breakfast on the top floor. When we had to leave early they provided a generous packed breakfast. The staff were really helpful in suggesting local restaurants, laundries, and arranging airport taxis. Overall, a simple hotel with warm and obliging staff.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DIRTY PLACE.

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I walked in directly on May 23rd and was charged $55 a person per night (booked 3 nights in total). I was happy at first because it was a king-size bed and had a view (room 410). I had traveled for 10 hours to get to Cusco and needed to rest.
The happiness didn’t last long after I paid $165 for a bed full of hairs. They don’t wash their sheets, which is disgusting, so MAKE SURE you check the sheets before you lay down. (Mind you, I’m Black, and there was long, straight hair.)
Then, after eating their breakfast, I got sick for some reason. I just wanted to work and rest on Saturday, but they made it IMPOSSIBLE. There’s a phone in the room, and they called six times on Saturday and three times on Sunday asking nonsense questions. First, they asked if I wanted my room cleaned, which I declined because it had only been one day since check-in. The second call was to ask me to take the breakfast tray out of the room, which I had already done way before they called. I gave it to the server as soon as I finished eating. Then, they called to ask if I needed new towels. I declined again as I traveled with my own, and I asked them to STOP calling. I told them I would communicate if I needed anything. But they kept calling!!!
The last call I received was at 8:50 PM, which I ignored. Then, on Sunday morning, they started AGAIN. The first call came at 7:45 AM. I didn’t answer and just hung up. Then they knocked on the door, which I didn’t respond to, and I received a third call a couple of hours later and left the phone hung up.
They basically STALKED me and made my stay miserable and very uncomfortable.
I own a business, Calypso Adventures, a water sports company in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. In my 20 years of experience, I have NEVER seen receptionists stalk customers like that.
If they didn’t want me there, they should have just said they were full.
STAY AWAY!!!! THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOR.
On May 26th, I checked out but needed 3 more nights. I noticed a 4-story building right next to them, so I went to check it out. It’s a beautiful, brand-new construction that’s a LOT cheaper, with new beds, TVs, breakfast, and CLEAN sheets. Check out RETAMA LODGING they opened 2 months ago and are a family-owned business and very respectful and friendly. It's a huge difference between the two, and I regret not finding it before.

Great stay at El Mariscal! Great staff!

We had a great stay at El Mariscal. We stayed for two nights before heading out on the Inca Trail before coming back for another two nights, and the hotel was extremely accommodating with us leaving our bags there. When we had other very early excursions (before 6am), we were offered take away breakfast bags which were delicious! Hotel staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Cleaned our rooms daily as well. Showers were hot with good pressure too!
The walk into the main square was about a 20 minute walk. The neighbourhood was safe and easy to get around. There’s a couple of small shops on the Lucrepata Street if you need any extra snacks or water and there’s also the market open during the day too.
I would recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Cusco.

Highly Recommended – Great Staff and Peaceful Location

We can truly recommend El Mariscal Hotel in Cusco.
Alejandra at the reception has been incredibly welcoming and has helped us with everything we needed. All the staff are very helpful and polite, which made us feel well taken care of throughout our stay. We stayed at the hotel three separate times between our other activities and trips, and they always took care of our luggage while we were away. The hotel has a cozy, homey feel and is located in a quiet and peaceful area, so you sleep really well.
