Great stay at the Eagles Nest!
My husband, daughter and I try to come to big bear once a year as a getaway, and always stay somewhere new each time. This year, we found the Eagles nest and were happy with the price and the small cottage that we stayed in. We were instantly greeted by the man I’m guessing owns the property. No, he doesn’t speak English, but he does his best to communicate and uses his phone as well. He went out of his way to make sure our stay was absolutely perfect, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We got tons of snow, and he even helped us shovel out our truck and get the chains put on. He brought my daughter multiple sleds to play with in the snow. The cottage was small, but it had a full mini kitchen with a microwave and dishes, fireplace, and the couch turns into a bed as well!

Never again
Sad and neglected property. The Asian lady that checked us in was very nice but spoke no English and I think she is in over her head in terms of maintaining the property. Everything old and dusty and broken. Used to be a great place. No more. Don’t be fooled by the pictures.

If you are easy going or have low expectations, this might be the place for you!
The Gold Rush is not your average Expedia property- NO, this is a VRBO (owned by Expedia). 8 days before my trip, I tried to reach out to the property owner/host. I needed a rollaway bed or cot for my traveling partner. I tried FOUR different methods- I emailed, called, texted and messaged through the Expedia website. To this day, I still have yet to get a reply. I spoke with VRBO about my issues. They tried to contact the host and they could not either. They would not let me get a refund and I booked MONTHS in advance, so I could not get a solution from my credit card. So I was stuck with the reservation or I would lose my money. Instructions are vague at best. We arrived and found the main house, which no one was working at. I found rooms upstairs, but none were labeled "Gold Rush". So we wandered the property and eventually found some cabins. The Gold Rush was very small with only one queen sized bed. VERY soft and lumpy. We moved a parlor couch out of the way- I brought a blowup mattress and sleeping bag, because we didn't know what to expect. Everything is very old. The bathroom tiles have mold growing in between. There were no face towels available. I was afraid to use the shower, but had no choice. It felt dirty. I would NEVER in a million years recommend this place to anyone. It's cheap, but that's about it. Stay at one of the competitors- you will feel better about it.

very terrible
at our honeymoon we booked at Eagle’s nest it was very scary and terrible night…at our room’s ceiling were raccoons and other animals, we could not sleep all the night from terrible noises, we checked out before our time it was the most scariest night for us.
