Peaceful and serene Resort
The lake is adorable and has little beds to sit by with a glass of wine.
We did go into the pool and hot tub area one night and that was fine, but we did not use the spa.
The only negative was the on site restaurant. The food was awful and the menu wasn’t even correct/very limited.

Resort Price Hotel With Budgetary Motel Results
The “famous” white sand beach was one of the biggest disappointments. Instead of soft sand, it was mostly mud and goose droppings, and the surface felt more like concrete than an enjoyable beach. The goose problem extends throughout the property. We attempted to play badminton and cornhole and ended up constantly dealing with goose waste.
One reason we booked was the advertised Thursday night live music, but there was none. We also chose Chetola because it has an on-site restaurant. Since the resort is farther from downtown Blowing Rock and most restaurant options, we were comfortable staying outside of town with our toddler because we expected to eat many of our meals on property. Unfortunately, we were notified the day we arrived that the restaurant would be closed for our entire stay, forcing us to make trips into town anyway. (To add insult to injury management described it as a mechanical issue after numerous staff confirmed it was a staffing issue. How exactly was the restaurant open for breakfast but not lunch or dinner with a mechanical issue?)
The resort feels old and outdated, our room was not cleaned thoroughly (we found multiple items from previous guests), the ice machine never worked, and a broken door stopper blocked access to the stairwell for the majority of our stay.
Most disappointing was management’s lack of response. I emailed detailed concerns on Friday morning to give them an opportunity to address the issues before checkout and never received any response. I have emailed numerous times since my stay again with no response.
This property is a gem with tremendous potential, but it appears to be poorly managed and suffering from staffing and maintenance issues. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend it.

I am especially sorry that the restaurant closure had such a significant impact on your visit. We understand that having an on-site dining option was an important factor in choosing Chetola, particularly while traveling with your toddler. We also should have communicated the temporary closure prior to your arrival rather than after you had already checked in. I apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this caused.
I also regret the condition you encountered around the beach and recreation areas. While our lake is home to protected wildlife, including geese and swans, we recognize the challenges they present and our team works diligently throughout the day to keep the grounds as clean as possible. We understand this fell short of your expectations.
Your comments regarding the cleanliness of your room, the inoperative ice machine, the broken stairwell door stopper, and the overall condition of your accommodations are equally concerning. These are not the standards we strive to deliver, and your feedback has been shared with our housekeeping and engineering teams for review and follow-up.
I am particularly disappointed to learn that you did not receive a response to your emails. Regardless of the circumstances, every guest deserves a timely acknowledgement, and I apologize that we missed the opportunity to address your concerns directly.
Chetola Resort is currently undergoing a multi-phase enhancement program, including the complete renovation and reimagining of our signature restaurant, along with additional improvements planned throughout the property this year. These investments reflect our commitment to continually enhancing the guest experience while preserving the character and beauty of the resort. While these improvements are exciting for our future, they do not diminish the experience you expected and deserved during your stay.
Thank you again for your candid feedback. Although I regret that your visit did not reflect the level of hospitality we strive to provide, I appreciate you highlighting these concerns, and I hope we will have the opportunity to restore your confidence in Chetola with a future visit.

Front desk attendant were very cold almost robotic other than one new your women who was great.
We would pass front desk in the morning or entering the lobby they wouldn’t even look up.
At dinner the food was not very good the server EJ was wonderful.
Breakfast was good, I’m a tough customer as I hate to receive frozen items I could microwave myself at home. Sausage we microwaved jimmy dean as the bacon was also.
The entire property is beautiful but it has aged without much updating.
We gave it 4 stars as the one friendly front desk person upgrade our room as it was our wedding anniversary and we had requested a balcony room and they didn’t not have one
At check in and upgraded us to a very nice room.
We would return just know what to expand you check in. The Propert was clean and everything worked just felt like we were back in 1999.

Beautiful grounds
Our room of the lake so pretty. Room is very clean and comfortable. The people at front desk very nice.
