Lovely place to stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Fort Printers. The hotel had a nice relaxing vibe about it and the rooms we had were very spacious. It was a great base to use whilst exploring Galle. Me and my family would like to thank the staff at the hotel for dealing with a health situation that arose whilst we stayed there. They expressed genuine concern and were very accommodating in resolving a difficult situation. The food was very good and the staff were exceptional. The cleaning staff worked seamlessly and your room would be made up whilst you were down at breakfast! I would highly recommend this place to anyone thinking of visiting the area.

Beware of booking at the Fort Printers! You may be in for some nasty surprises.
Beware of booking at the Fort Printers! We have had a particularly unpleasant experience with this hotel that we have not experienced with a hotel before with all our trips. The last 3 weeks we have enjoyed the beautiful Sri Lanka with its very nice residents. Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to the manager of the Fort Printers. We had booked for 3 nights but were tucked 5 minutes walk (even the suitcases were transported by car) through a busy shopping street in a building. There were no facilities you had to walk to the hotel for that. The building does not breathe any atmosphere and is not worth the money to say the least. The few windows that are in the room are blacked out because otherwise we look at (dirty) walls. The front doesn't make you happy because it is blocked by scooters; there are no staff present in this building either. If you want to swim then you have to go to the hotel in your swimming trunks through the busy shopping street. The photos are therefore misleading and you are not sufficiently made aware that you are being put away like this. The manager thought we were nagging because we had the cheapest rooms. These rooms were 120€ per night and that is not a cheap room for Sri Lanka. In short, extremely disappointing and I hope Expedia we have been in contact with informs the hotel that the customer will be expressly informed of this when booking. I would never have booked these rooms at this hotel otherwise.

Pedlar 65 operates as a separate heritage villa featuring three bedrooms, a living room, and a small kitchen, making it suitable for families or groups of friends. As a standalone property, it is positioned differently from the main Fort Printers building, and room rates are therefore offered at a lower price point compared to the Fort Printers rooms. All bookings and operations are fully managed by The Fort Printers team.
Your reservation was made through Expedia, where the room category booked is clearly described as being located at Pedlar 65, a short walking distance from The Fort Printers main building. This information is stated in the room description, and several images on the booking platform also highlight that Pedlar 65 is separate from the main hotel, in order to avoid any misunderstanding or disappointment.
Upon arrival, our front desk team again explained the details of your booking, including the room location and access to facilities at the main hotel. At that time, we kindly advised that if the accommodation did not meet your expectations, you were welcome to cancel your reservation rather than proceed with the stay. After receiving this information, you chose to continue with your booking and stay with us.
Regarding your comments about the walls, we would like to clarify that the walls at 65 Pedlar Street, as well as elsewhere within the Galle Fort, are not dirty as per your photo. They are intentionally maintained to reflect the historic character of the Fort. This is an aesthetic choice that many guests find charming and authentic, and it is also influenced by the natural humidity of the region. This should not be mistaken for a lack of cleanliness. Regarding scooters parked along the street, this is common throughout the Fort, where hotels, restaurants, and galleries are situated along the roads.
As Pedlar 65 operates as a separate villa, there is no on-site staff; however, our Fort Printers team is always available on call to assist with any needs. All guests are welcome to enjoy the swimming pool, restaurant, and services at the main hotel, and luggage assistance is always provided for guest convenience.
Your comments regarding communication and expectations have been noted, and we will continue to work closely with our booking partners to ensure clarity for future guests.

Beware of booking at the Fort Printers!
Chosen for this hotel because of its central location in Galle and the beautiful pictures. Unfortunately appearances are deceiving! The hotel has the busiest street of Galle a little further away another building where they have 3 rooms. Facing a demolition and with mopeds blocking access is a building that does not exude the atmosphere of the hotel at all. We get a small room with 2 blacked windows and look out on dirty walls. So we have no view from our room. There are no facilities here and we have to go down the busy street in our swimming trunks if we want to swim. The suitcases are brought by car and wifi hardly works. The manager tells us not to whine because we have the cheapest room. In any case, this manager does not know customer friendliness. In short, an experience we have not experienced before in beautiful Sri Lanka with its more than friendly people.
When booking, insufficient attention is drawn to this and you will therefore be in for an unpleasant surprise. Had we known this, we would never have booked here. Because for Sri Lanka this is a hotel that knows what to do with its prices.

Elegant Cocktails in a Historic Setting
A former printing house beautifully converted into a hotel, retaining its old-world grandeur and elegance. The courtyard is particularly impressive, and the entire place has a refined, timeless feel.
We stopped by for after‑dinner drinks and were very well looked after. The staff were friendly, and the cocktails were excellent. Sitting on the terrace with a drink, watching the crowd pass by outside, is a wonderful way to end the evening. Fully recommended — elegant without being stuffy.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of galle
Fantastic stay in the most beautiful building , steeped in history. The lovey lady on concierge explained it all too us , how it had been a school and then a printers . The service was excellent. Breakfast was truly wonderful and beautifully presented. We stayed in the geography room which was so lovely . I'm resuming it's a listed building so no double glazing so can be a little noisy but it didn't bother us at all .
