Indescribable, unforgettable, magical - a jewel
Stay Golden is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Everything was just right here: from the hosts, to the offers like yoga and surfing, to our cabana.
Angie and Rihan are super nice and helpful. They are on site every day and always available for a talk. Angie gave us very good tips for our Sri Lanka trip even before our stay. The other staff are also extremely helpful and very nice. At Stay Golden we encountered a harmonious atmosphere every day.
We, family one child (7 years), booked the double storey cabbana with sea view. We had plenty of space. On request, the house was always cleaned immediately and cleanly incl. change of bed linen and towels. We really appreciated this as daily cleaning in hotels is often unnecessary and just quick. The bed linen was of such pleasant quality, I also fell in love with the colours of the bed linen :-).
The whole resort is small and fine. You can have your peace and quiet or get into conversation with other guests as you wish.
We really appreciated the peace and quiet a little outside AB, and yet you can get to AB quickly after a short walk.
The yin and slow yoga with Agatha is highly recommended. She caters to every level and especially after a long flight she helps to loosen up tense muscles.
The sea in front invites you to swim, but the waves are very wild (less suitable for smaller children).
We also had great pleasure with the animals (cats and dogs) who live together with the guests in peace.
Coming home is always nice. But we were a bit sad when we had to say goodbye to the Cabbana and the nice family (Angie, Rihan and little R.). That's why we have just booked again for next year:-).
We would recommend the Stay Golden to anyone looking for a combination of peace, tranquillity and attention to detail - Angie and Rihan have really created a little paradise. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience and all the experiences.

Sri Lankans NOT Welcome!
Tried inquiring about the rates and was met with shocking hostility. The management seemed extremely unwelcoming towards Sri Lankans. When I asked about the rate for one night, I was abruptly told there's a minimum three-night stay policy. I still considered it, but when I politely asked if the price included taxes, the person started shouting and made an offensive remark about Sri Lankans. Absolutely unacceptable. I was genuinely interested in the property and remained respectful throughout, but the customer service was appalling. Just… wow.

Truly Golden
My husband and I first booked to stay a week here, then extended...and extended...and ended up staying a whole month!
Why? So many reasons.
Our room was really comfortable, clean and very well-furnished, and regularly cleaned (whenever we wanted). The shower was ALWAYS full of hot water, which is not always the case in this country.
The staff were all friendly and helpful. Angie and Rihan (the couple who own and manage it) were friendly, very kind and always responsive to any requests we had. Ishad the excellent restaurant manager was really professional and kind. And all the other staff were great: the kitchen staff and the two fabulous guys who refresh the rooms and do the maintenance.
When our air conditioning stopped working, they got a new AC unit and replaced it within a couple of hours.
The swimming pool, unlike some we have seen in the last four months in Sri Lanka, was cleaned daily and was a lovely place to relax every day.
The food was excellent, with a large and varied menu offering loads of lovely breakfast options including fantastic fruit porridge or muesli, refreshing smoothie bowls and loads of different pancakes. And the same variety was available in the lunch and dinner menu - our favourites were the Sri Lankan curry and the devilled tofu (to die for). We are vegetarians, and there were lots of great veggie and vegan options for us.
Also, the whole vibe of the place was great. Guests were very friendly and there was often a lively social scene in the restaurant in the evenings with many people staying there for hours enjoying happy hour cocktails etc. They have a large collection of board and card games too, which gave us a lot of fun and were popular with other guests too.
Another great extra item they offer is free bicycles to use (as well as scooters which you can rent). We often went off cycling to explore the local wildlife in the late afternoons as the sun started to go down a bit - in one direction we could see a bunch of crocodiles in the river (on the other side of Pottuvil), and in the other direction, we saw three or four elephants in the field every time!
The location is great, with all this nature in all directions, the beach with surfing opportunities is a few metres from the hotel, and you can walk into the town in a few minutes to go to restaurants, shops etc.
One day, Rihan offered a free trip for all guests by jeep to the nearby Elephant Rock. This was great fun, and we all spent a happy hour at the top of the rock enjoying the lovely view as well as the drinks and snacks Rihan offered us.
Sometimes they also surprised us by arriving in our room with a free watermelon juice or king coconut (coconut full of its own juice - you drink it with a straw). This is the kind of extra touch which makes Stay Golden extra special.
One more thing - Rihan and Angie have a little son, Rami. When you see the joy on this cheeky, cute kid's face every day, you can't help but be happy. We never saw another guest who didn't fall totally in love with him!
So that is why we stayed longer here than any other hotel or homestay in our four months in Sri Lanka.

we love Stay Golden
Don’t even know what to start from..
We just left the stay golden hotel after a month of living there) and it was amazing! At first we didn’t even think that we can handle living in one place even for two weeks.. We were scared of boredom, same routine etc) But stay golden completely changed our thoughts and excelled everything!
The hotels location (a bit further of the main loud road) is so convenient. It gives an opportunity to relax from noise and din… The Stay Golden’s wild beach is the most powerful and peaceful place that we’ve seen on Sri Lanka so far) the staff and service is perfect! Everything is clean and super nice. The restaurant’s menu is huge, everything is extremely delicious! Trust us, we’ve tried everything during this month hotel
suggests a lot of facilities : surfboard rent, surf transfer, surf and yoga lessons, free bicycle usage) It makes this place even more perfect!
Eventually, we’ve prolonged our stay twice, and didn’t even want to leave.. Stay Golden hits different) it gives a family vibe. And, of course, the relation of price and quality is the best in Arugam Bay see you next year xoxo

Fantastic value and great beach
Stay Golden is the best lodging choice in the area. Great staff , great food and a beautiful, unspoiled beach in front of the accommodation. Book directly with these folks through their website. You won't believe how reasonable the rates are. Nice pool onsite as well, although you can get into the ocean water if you are a confident swimmer.
