One of the Best Service B&B in Taiwan!
I visited this place Luye (鹿野高台) about 7yrs ago and it has left a great impression with me and I said I will want to come back and stay here for a few nights.
In my latest family trip, I make sure the itinerary covers this area and choose to stay here for 2 nights.
I booked my accommodations directly with them and their responses were fast and prompt. I communicated with them in Mandarin but I believed they won’t have any issues to reply you in English.
On arrival, the check in were easy and they make sure that we are well settled in before they left us to ourselves. The rooms on Tripadvisor are exactly what it is shown. Simple, but classic and elegant. That is why I didn’t bothered to take any pics to show. The room My family stayed in was really cleaned and tidy.
We stay on the 2nd floor in Room 2.
During our stay here, the servers will always be willing to serve and help us and strike a conversation with us. We brought in our own food (for dinner), they actually encouraged us to use their utensils and even help us to clean them.
The view in this place is heavenly. On good weather you should be able to see galaxies of stars but unfortunately for us, the weather were not in our favour. If you really want to see the stars I believed coming here during spring or summer would be the best.
Few things to note when you are staying here.
1) Most loose items like cutleries and toiletries are provided but are stored in a common area.
2) bottled water are provided but they also have water dispenser in the common area
3) coffee and tea is free the whole duration of your stay with them in their cafe. And I am not referring to just instant coffee and tea. But like cappuccino, latte add etc.
4) breakfast were included. But instead of the usual buffet line it was family style with local Asian cuisine thou toasts are available too.
5) heated water for showers are limited in the day. 6am-8am and 6pm to 12midnight.
6) Servers are staying in the building on level 3, so if you need any emergency assistance they will be there too.
My conclusion and recommendation is that if you are coming to this part of Taiwan, please make sure you come and stay in this B&B, it is definitely worth it to stay here!
I will definitely be back again!

Best location for Hot Air Balloon festival
We stayed here for the sole purpose of attending the hot air balloon festival taking place at gaotai (the grassy field the the hotel overlooks). Between this hotel and the other one that is in the gaotai area, this one has the better view on its second level balcony exclusive to hotel guests. It looks directly over the hot air balloons. The rooms were simple, maybe a bit dated but okay. The bathroom had a mildewy smell though that was hard to get rid of so we just kept the bathroom door closed throughout our one night stay. The breakfast was quite amazing, a pleasant surprise. Fresh fruit from the area and handmade, organic mantou (buns) that are shaped like flowers. I believe breakfasts change according to what is in season. What we had was amazing. We also bought a bottle of their plum wine that they make onsite. It is the best plum wine I had and wish I bought more.

Long drive for good scenery
This B&B is a long drive up a hill and located next to a large field, away from everything else. So long drive in exchange for serene & peaceful surroundings, it is definitely worth it if you like nature.
The room we stayed in had a balcony overlooking the field, so we had a nice view of the neighbouring mountains and greenery. It was nice to breathe in some fresh air! The room appeared to be of age, but it was clean and well-kempt, so no complaints about cleanliness. The feeling of this B&B was more hotel-like; there was an acceptable level of customer service, but not to the extent of the warm & 'homey' type.
The breakfast was good though, they served us many small taiwanese-styled dishes with sweet potato porridge! There was also the standard toast, coffee and tea.
All in all, it is worth a stay. We are considering coming back to stay at Lutai for the Hot Air Balloon Festival in the future.

Where's the wine then?!?!
Expected this to be a place where you could have a meal with of bottle of wine, but that was not to be. We were given samples of whisky which was ok, but not repeatable, mulberry something or other which was Undrinkable and some other similar white stuff but stuck to the tea stuff. Disappointing. Meal was average but after a day driving anything was acceptable. Breakfast ok, but local. Location good with good view. Bed ok, room nice, bathroom ok, shower good. But it's expected that wine is served at a winery........!!!
