delightful weekend stay

We stayed two nights and took the room with the shower. It was really lovely - clean, spacious and overlooked fields.
Rebecca was a friendly and wonderful host and she cooked us up two delicious breakfasts.
We enjoyed meeting some of the locals at the bar too. It's a very welcoming environment and something a bit different from being in a hotel.

Stopped for a quick pint of coke

Stopped in for a quick pint of pepsi to have to look for the bar staff to serve me upon ordering my drink the bar lady was very rude to me then when I went out side to drink my drink my truck was parked outside and she became very abusive towards me I would give this place a wide birth

Quirky.

We visited The Malt Scoop for an overnight stay as we were going to the Ale & Gin Festival at Rosemoor last weekend, a very old inn with sloping floors, walls etc & a lot of stairs & steps so not suitable for the old or disabled.
Rooms were fine, comfortable, there are only 2 rooms available both en-suite, both have steps up or down to, plenty of hot water & clean, beds were comfortable & rooms are spacious. Breakfast was tasty & enjoyable.
Dogs are welcomed & the Landlady’s dog, Devon, a largish furry fella, very cute & friendly.
Our visit to the festival ended early so we decided to go back to the pub & finish our evening there which was great, the bar is small & friendly, so we had more fun there than at Rosemoor.
The Malt Scoop wouldn’t be everyone’s ideal b & b if you want 5* it is not, if your not very mobile it could be difficult as stairs are steep, but for a night or twos stay recommendable.

Not a warm welcome

Arrived to landlord opening the door and saying ‘I hope you have cash with you otherwise you can’t check in?!?’ (There was an issue with internet connection in the inn) worked in Devon during day/evening. Had breakfast in morning which was cooked by a lovely chef. and was going back to my room to chill out before check out when I was told check out had been moved forward this morning as the landlord had to get to the bank in the next hour. So had to rush and have a shower and get out ASAP basically. Would of been nice to have been told the night before. Like the title says not a warm welcome.

Lovely meal and good beer

Staying at the Tythecombe Lake Cottages for a few days and the owners recommended The Malt Scoop Inn as a nice local place to eat. We had a main course each and a few drinks. Very reasonably priced and the food was superb. 3 cask ales on draft and I had the Tribute Ale from St Albans Brewery. I would definetly recommend coming here as Becky the owner and Jordan the Chef make you feel very welcome. I will be visiting again before we go home and would say to anyone staying in the area to come here and try the Garlic Bread with Cheese it is to die for.
