Comfortable stay

We enjoyed a one night stay here whilst travelling south. The hotel is in a lovely area but still close enough for the motorway
and Carlisle. A warm welcome at reception and indeed all the staff we met during our stay were professional and friendly. Our room was on the second floor which is only accessible by stairs so if that would be an issue it would be best to request a ground floor room.
Our room was spacious and comfortable, bath and shower and my favourite toiletries to use. Comfortable bed and quiet. A small fridge would have been good to have and my husband would have liked a bigger TV!
We ate at the onsite restaurant for dinner in the conservatory area overlooking the garden.
The food was good especially the steak and ale pie. Large portions. Service was great with a very friendly, helpful waiter.
Would definitely come again.

Another wonderful stay, but!

For us, this really great hotel is perfectly located for a stopover when travelling to family in Scotland. On this occasion we stopped two nights going up and then again on our return home. Quiet, clean, comfortable rooms. Pleasant, staff, wonderful pool/sauna/steam/gym. Very nice breakfast in the conservatory with very professional, attentive, staff. Rural setting but close to rail link, Carlisle, moorlands, and dales.
However, as we have encountered before, this very popular hotel does cater for many large parties and weddings, which in itself is not a problem but does affect other guests when wishing to eat in the bar/restaurant after arrival. As has happened before, once again we were told food was not being served to walk-ins (understandable) or booked guests because of large parties, (90 persons) being booked in for functions. Although not a deal breaker, inconveniently and after a long drive, we had to take our custom elsewhere. I believe that full consideration for the normal, passing trade guests should be as important as catering for large parties and that the same service is available to all, at all times, without implying some services at some times would not be available because the staff cannot cope!! All custom is important.
This will not deter us, we will book again as the pros greatly outnumber the cons.

The receptionist needs to be more welcoming, she was rude and blunt, the bar staff and manager was very good and helpful, the room was nice except the lights from the sign outside shine straight into the room so if its hot you cant even keep the blinds open

Superb Hotel

Secrured an excellent value room for less than £100. Access to high quality spa, pool and gym. Excellent restaurant/bar and super friendly girls at reception.
Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

The best hospitality in beautiful setting

What a great establishment. The accommodation was excellent and the food superb. We were so well looked after by Kim on reception who went out of her way to accommodate our family in several rooms. Above all I must mention Dan who was spectacular. This young man ran circles around the bar and restaurant to deliver the best service to his customers. I don’t know how he did it as the establishment seemed so understaffed but he waited upon us with no fuss and great humour. Please give him a bonus! My wife and I and our 4 boys had the best time and can’t wait to return. Thank you!
