Great Family Lunch
Wanted to share the great experience we had when visiting for lunch 08/08/26 as a large family booking.
The food was delicious and didn’t take long to arrive. We must mention Sapphire who from the moment we arrived to order drinks was a ray of sunshine, she was so friendly and attentive and made our visit 5*.

The RyanAir of Hotels, avoid
I stay in hotels ~100 nights pa, spend £15-20k. This is first time in 5+ years I feel moved to make a negative review (tbf I very rarely leave reviews at all). Room & bed were nice, thats it. Arrived 2315 to be met by the computer check in. Staff member told me bar closed with no onsite option for drinks or food. Not even vendors. He helped me find resolution and that is appreciated, but I shouldn't have to push so hard. I query the lovely looking pool/sauna. £5 extra, which is ok and I was told I could pay then or in the morning. I chose the latter. I decided not to shower in room but use gym facilities. Get to check out at 1101 because of the huge trek from my room. Told I cannot buy pool pass as passed checkout!!! Absolutely zero flexibility apart from buying a day pass for £20. Most customer service I received was matter of fact and borderline confrontational. Well, I was going to join my local Village Gym and probably aim to spend £8k pa on stays. Not now. Even Days Inn/Travelodge have better service, Holiday Inn have comparable rooms. Its pretty clear staff are being hamstrung by company systems, stay clear - punish their bottom line until they improve.

No aircon ruined visit.
Could have been an amazing hotel but for one overriding thing. The room was lovely, the pool facilities were great, the food was adequate. The staff were very friendly and constantly having to apologise because the heat in the room was absolutely unbearable - no aircon and one small desk fan to stir the hot air. At one point it hit 40 degrees overnight. We could barely breathe. I considered sleeping in the foyer where there was beautiful aircon. This would definitely put me off going again.

Great stay, excellent value
I've been to the Village Hotel in Nottingham many times before (and also other Village hotels) but feel moved to write a jolly good review because I felt it (and the team) deserved a shout out.
I was there for 2 nights and we reserved (a very last minute) conference room for 2 days. They couldn't have been easier to deal with when I booked - efficient, professional, just ON IT. And all day the service was great - nothing too much to ask.
I think my Club Room was recently refurbished. Love that they've got rid of that stripey wall! Yes, there is just a fan and no air-con. Yes, the heavy duvet is just weird in 'heat wave world', no, they don't service the room mid-stay (but might have done if I'd asked). But do you know what, for the price I paid, the room was GREAT.
The gym is FAB and I love that it's full of lots of older women (way older than me) working out - feels very safe and comfortable. Clean. Lovely team on the desk.
The Village feels like it's working hard, against budget constraints, to really deliver. It's clear on what it is, and if you don't like sports/music/grill/gym then don't stay here. I'm not into sports/music/grill (but I do like a gym) and I love it. Great value, great team.

Fine overall but a few annoyances
The Village Hotel near Nottingham is situated close to a small retail park and also just a short walk away from a delightful nature reserve with river walks. Like most Village hotels, there is a gym and swimming pool on site and access seems to be included with most bookings. We stayed on a warm Friday and Saturday night.
In the important respects everything was fine. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly, and both the gym and the closeness of the nature reserve are strong points. We did not dine in the hotel at all; the food and bar looked OK but ordinary and somewhat expensive to us and there are plenty of other options nearby.
There were a few little annoyances. First I made the mistake of upgrading to a "club room" - it wasn't a big mistake as the price premium was relatively small, but I felt slightly conned as the benefits advertised included gym and pool access, free parking, and free wifi, all of which turn out to be included anyway; also the wifi never worked properly for us, no big deal as the mobile signal is strong. The one meaningful benefit of the club room for us was the pod coffee machine in the room, but it wasn't worth the extra cost.
Second, we were there for two nights but the room was not serviced at all, so when we got back on the evening of the second day there was still all our rubbish in the bin, dirty coffee cups, and the two free cans of water were not replenished. On enquiring about the the water (bear in mind this is in the midst of a heat wave) it was explained that they are only provided on the first day of the visit but the staff kindly provided us with two more cans, for which we were most grateful.
Third, note that the bedrooms are not air conditioned though the lobby area is. Normally not a problem in England but it was rather warm for our stay; and the duvet on the bed was too heavyweight for the temperature, perhaps we could have got this changed but we did not ask.
I know these are relatively small matters, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the good things about the hotel.
