Basic and clean.
This a nice average hotel with a helpful friendly family staff, basic breakfast and comfortable bed. Just a few blocks to the centre of Cuenca. Lots of stores and restaurants close by. It's on a busy intersection so expect city noise and ringing church bells. I always travel with ear plugs so the noise was not a problem for me. Two flights of stairs to the second floor. No elevator. I stayed for two weeks and if you are looking for basic and clean then I recommend this hotel.

Good value for money. Helpful friendly staff. Great location.
I only found this hostal by accident as it was not on the usual websites. There is a nice spacious feel to the place. I had a single room but with a little terrace that opened on to a very noisy street. I didn't mind the noise and when you close the shutters it isn't so bad. I felt like the staff there make alot of effort to look out for you. I would recommend it to a friend. I extended my stay there in the end.

Super family run hostel
We booked in here after spotting it while staying someplace else, had a lovely big room, owners and staff super friendly and helpful, great breakfast and great affordable prices. Ok the bathroom could do with a facelift but shower was hot and plentiful, the bathroom smelled damp and I am sure all the bathrooms are old, but for the price we were more than happy. Great find and super clean with really comfortable beds. Would return.

Yet another hotel with some hidden mold problems in the wall of the bathroom.
Other than that we can't really complain.
We had a large room with balcony. The doors shut out enough of the street noise to sleep well.

Not really a budget hotel?
We spent one night at the hotel and had a few problems that I think might be incidental to staying in a cheaper hotel in Ecuador. But it really was not cheaper in my opinion. We are family of 4 and it cost us $70 for the night. There is a misconception about how wonderful the city of Cuenca is, and unfortunately this is driving prices up with no good justification. The room was clean and spacious, the staff was exceptionally friendly. Coffee, tea and water were available at all times in the lobby. The room odor I think is standard in Ecuador, coming from the poor plumbing notable in this country. The WiFi did not work in the room, I had to go to the lobby to get internet on my laptop. We had a plumbing problem with the toilet which I had to fix and clean myself while the night desk clerk looked on. This included my mopping the bathroom floor with a pethic mop and bath towels.
The beds were very comfortable, the sheets were soft, clean and wonderful, the pillows were very full but hard. The room was quiet even though it was a street corner and I guess we got a good nights sleep.
In view of what you can get for rooms in Cuenca I think we would stay there again. I just don't like price for a family of 4.
