A clean and safe place, most attentive host
A very cute house right in the center of Shella. it is a bit busy and noisy during the day, but quiet at night. I felt completely safe walking around there, also after darkness. The gem of the place is your host Alex - he is so welcoming and helpful beyond measure! and the owner was very helpful as well, and quick in responding to messages.
the place and rooms are clean, basic amenities like soap etc., were provided. breakfast is served with real (!!) coffee.
I was in the ground floor room, which was a bit dark, but I can imagine that this will be appreciated during the hottest months.
its a good value for money.
I want to add that I personally did not enjoy Lamu island as much, which however, had nth to do with the guest house!

Royal experience at Shela Royal House
Shela Royal House is a gem of a place for a stay in Lamu, with great value. The location is fabulous and staff very attentive and ready to do everything to make your stay a memorable one.
The rooms on the upper floors are very well appointed with an exquisite adjoining outside terrace with wonderful seating for relaxation, greenery to temper the sun, and a table for breakfast
The rooftop floor has a large communal space with large TV screen and table, with apps like Netflix. There is a fridge in the room for drinks and a shop just two minutes walk away. Staff arranged laundry with no fuss, and arranged a cool drinks delivery for us.
Omar, Baya and team are great! I won't ld love to come back when next in Shela.

Management needs to manage unruly guests
I bumped the hotel up from 1 star because broadly I liked everything about this hotel, except for unruly guests that partied well past 230 in the morning while I stayed there. Management seems completely absent to address the problem. I overheard other guests complaining about this the following morning, yet management did nothing to address the problem the following date. Frankly it was so loud guests in other sections on the hotel were complaining yet management remained unconcerned. Its a shame because the rooms are spacious, the view is nice, the location is good, but good lord you will NOT have any chance of getting any sleep.

Hidden pearl and bargain luxury on Shella Island. Ali is the best cook.
This hotel is a hidden pearl on Shella Island close to Lamu. You'll be spoiled with the excellent services of Omar and Ali who run the place. They will do anything to keep you happy during your stay. They usualy provide full board which is a bargain. For an extra charge they will make you lobster or calamari or other wonderfull seafood. If you want a more reasonably priced alternativ to the Peponi by the beach, which by the way is totally overpriced for the quality you get - this is the place! We stayed for a week and can't wait to get back.

Home away from home
Wow our stay here was absolutely beautiful! We stayed for 4 nights and it was very pleasant. The staff was very kind and ready to help whenever we needed anything.
The food was delicious to say the least. We are foodies so food is among the reasons we travel and this place was worth writing home about!
