British Airways and easyJet both offer direct flights from Jersey to London-Gatwick. This is the airport's busiest flight route, so book your tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Terminal Information – Departing
Jersey Airport has one terminal. The departure lounge has a good range of facilities. Shops include airport favourites like World Duty Free and WHSmith as well as stores selling products exclusive to Jersey. Jersey Pearl, Jersey Pottery and La Mare Wine Estate all offer unique souvenirs to bring to London. If you're in need of refreshment you can enjoy something to eat at Island Market or sit down with a drink at The Bar. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, perfect if you've got a few emails to send before your flight to London.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Flights from Jersey land at Gatwick Airport's North Terminal. You need to take the free inter-terminal shuttle to reach the airport's train station. The Gatwick Express is the fastest way to reach central London. It takes half an hour to reach London Victoria and tickets cost £19.90* if you buy them on the day. Discounts are often available if you book online in advance. Non-express trains are run by Southern and Thameslink, which is fine if you're not in a hurry. Buses serving the airport include MetroBus, National Express and easyBus. You should reserve your ticket in advance to avoid disappointment and to get the best prices. Taxi ranks are available outside both the North and the South terminal. This is the most expensive way into the city: expect to pay at least £90*. Car hire desks are also located in both terminals. Practical Information
You don't need a passport to fly to London from Jersey. The Channel Islands are part of the Common Travel Area along with the UK and Ireland. Although you don't need a passport, you do need to bring an approved form of photographic ID for security purposes. A full list of acceptable ID's can be found on British Airways and easyJet's websites, but usually driving licenses, government issued identity cards, and security passes for recognised companies are fine.
What to expect in London
London is slightly more expensive than Jersey, although bar prices are equivalent to what you'd pay in the trendier bars of St Helier. Temperatures in London are very similar to what you would experience in Jersey, with warm summers and fairly mild winters. If you're planning on using public transport it's worth picking up an Oyster card. They cost £5* and offer a cheaper and more convenient way to use public transport. You can refund it at the end of your trip, or keep it for your next journey to London.
