Charming Atmosphere

Our stay was what we wanted: old-fashioned charm. The hotel has been updated without losing its historic atmosphere. Americans may find it a mix of historic and modern elements. Our room was quiet with a balcony that had a view of the sea. There are outdoor terraces, a garden with winding paths, and a giant pool (we had it mostly to ourselves!). This is a refreshing change from the impersonal Western chains that you can find in just about any major city. Breakfast buffet was pretty big by Algerian standards -- and the pastries and French bread were perfect.

Filthy dirty

I have no idea who gave this hotel a 5* rating! Maybe when it was newly refurbished back in the 80's but it is without a doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and wouldn't give it a 1*
I was supposed to stay for a few weeks but could only manage 1 night, absolutely disgusting room that had not been cleaned properly in a long time. The first room was very dated and had hairs in the bed, the second room was equally as filthy with dirty carpets, bogeys on the door frames, a grimey bath, dead ants and a bed sheet with cigarette burns in it. If it wasn't so late in the evening I would of left for another hotel straight away.

Very bad.

A very poor welcome.
The restaurant even made us leave just after we ordered, under the pretext that we needed to pay at the front desk!! We took the boat at 5 AM, no wake-up call , not even a thank you.
A taxi driver to take us for an Alger by night - 5000 dinars!!! A scam.
Too bad, the address reference and the establishment do not deserve such staff.

Unfortunately NO!!!

Dirty hotel both in the room and in the common areas. It was probably the top but in the 50s/60s, zero maintenance tiles moving in the bathroom, the balcony door didn't close well. Electricity sockets old and few! Highly rude and insolent staff. 5 stars???. I would say a 2/3 sl maximum, price obviously not adequate.
We moved to the Ralf Hotel (there are 2 in Alger, it is a new 4 star, spotless, superlative breakfast and dinner. The staff was friendly and helpful. Spacious room balcony with amazing views. Price 70€!!!!
El Djazir not recommended!!! We had great expectations!

Charming historic hotel cleanliness and organization to review

We chose this hotel because it is historic and in fact it has beautiful rooms and common areas. However, we were assigned a room already occupied at check-in and near the coffee machine at breakfast there were insects. For New Year's Eve dinner they didn't accept credit card payments!
