Excellent for the price
We stayed 2 nights in a room with private bathroom. The room was clean but basic, hot water shower with good pressure and a very comfy mattress. We slept well even though our room faced the communal courtyard- other guests were quiet and respectful . The pool area is nice for relaxing and breakfast was simple but adequate. Staff are friendly and helpful but speak only a little English. 5 mins walk to the main square, excellent location. Only downside was WiFi strength was poor. We paid 35GBP ($45) for 2 nights which I felt was a very good price for the quality of the room. A very good budget hostel in Cafayate demonstrated by it being full on the nights we stayed.

Service and quality do not correspond
Since I had to leave this hostel as soon as I arrived due to the bad appearance it gave me, and taking into account that the owner has not even contacted me to find out the reason, I explain it below so that no one is fooled .
We booked a room with a shared bathroom. They didn't have a private bathroom and we risked seeing what it was like to share a bathroom. The reason we left was because both the room and the bathroom looked bad.
The room we had was cornered, with very little interior light. It was small (it fit the bed and little else), very dark even with the light on, it was full of chips on the wall, the mattress was foam (very unfortunate) and the bedspread left a lot to be desired.
Regarding the shared bathroom, the problem is that it was very dark, the shower was a sink without a curtain or screen and it had utensils inside. What set me back the most was opening the toilet lid and seeing remains of another guest's defecation. Honestly, a shared bathroom has to be very clean. You can't have the bathroom in that condition because it doesn't encourage you to use it. There was also a pile of toilet papers on top of the sink, some of them wet from the tap water.
These are objective things, I understand that this hostel has a good rating and I do not dispute the opinions of others. I am simply telling my experience. It did not seem to me that the service provided or the facilities were those offered by any means.
By the way, I would like to take this opportunity to warn future users of this place to be careful with payment since apparently I have not been the only one who has tried to charge 21% VAT when paying by card. I've already seen several comments about this.
I would have liked the owner to have shown us a gesture by returning the money or at least charging us a portion, but given his generosity and humanity I am forced to return that kindness in the form of a comment. Greetings.

It's not what I expected.
Good location and attention.
The price is excessive for what the hostel is.
We had a room where the lock worked poorly, the bathroom had a dangerous bathtub and everything got wet with each bath, very uncomfortable.
The Wifi did not reach the room, to have a signal you have to go to the patio.
Poor breakfast, no fruit.
There are better options for a better price.
I would not go back.

Impeccable and central accommodation
Cozy place, private bathroom, common spaces to rest or share, swimming pool and all the amenities for tourists passing through. Everything very clean, incredible service and ideal location.

Double price through booking.com
The hostal was simple but nice. Good location. Unfortunately, I was surprised to learn that my booking was more expensive that it needed to be. I paid US$70 per night using booking.com and I learned during my stay that the same reservation would have been US$35 if booking directly with the hostal. I recommend to avoid using booking.com and instead book directly with the hostal.
