Bad experience

A very disappointing experience. The hostel kicked me out immediately after I briefly left a bicycle battery in my room, without any prior warning.
They refused to refund my remaining week's stay and also searched my belongings, which I found inappropriate.
I understand the security rules, but their handling of the situation was disproportionate and lacked transparency towards guests.

Awful

Awful experience, no air con remote, no lifts in hostel, air con not been cleaned out so made us all poorly, toilet absolutely stunk when we arrived

Would NOT recommend

Would not recommend. Stayed in a 4 bed en suite room with my girlfriend, there was half a metre between the bunk beds and about a metre of room at the end of the beds to move around. Shower didn’t drain so we either had to have a 29 second shower, or stand in 3 inches of water. Kitchen is too small with so many bags on the hooks we had no place to put our own belongings. The location is good and transport is spot on, other than that I’d stay elsewhere.

Would not stay again or recommend

We were travelling in a group as part of a company and this was one of the hostels. Our room was small, lockers did not open, the room was very very warm on arrival, no curtain on the bathroom window, our sink would not drain properly, the smell of the drains in the bathroom was awful. Our curtain pole actually fell down during our stay, staff were prompt at fixing it but the place overall is really outdated. The kitchen is really small with one long bench outside to eat at, definitely far too small at meal times. Not enough space in fridges and any “cupboard items” are just hung on pegs on the wall making them difficult to get to. When leaving you have to take every single bit of your bedding and towel downstairs (not done this at any other hostel, only pillowcase at most).

Can’t recommend because I wasn’t even let in :)

Absolutely disgraceful experience — avoid at all costs. Wasn’t even let in!
Arrived at 8:30 pm on a weekday with two friends (all women of colour), booking confirmed through Hostelworld. We were immediately turned away by the blonde woman at reception because I didn’t have a physical ID — despite being an Australian resident travelling domestically. Mind you, I had all forms of ID on me digitally and was even happy to share my card details/bills/lease details.
There is policy and then there is straight inhumanity.
You aren’t a human with civic sense if you can’t see people in trouble and bend the rules a bit.
She made no attempt to help. No alternatives, no guidance, no compassion. We were told “no other place will take you” and left stranded in an unfamiliar city at night. We were begging and in tears and all the woman could say was she can’t help. No effort whatsoever. Another staff member, who appeared to be a supervisor, overheard everything and still did nothing.
We pleaded for a one-night exception while we figured things out — she refused point blank. The complete lack of empathy and basic human decency was appalling.
I have no doubt the outcome would have been different if we were white. Instead, “policy” was used as an excuse to wash their hands of three women’s safety. If something had happened to us that night, it would have been a direct result of their callousness. The dangers of being stranded in a foreign city after dark with no roof over your head and while its raining is something I thought another woman would resonate with.
This is not just bad service — it’s dangerous, discriminatory, and utterly unforgivable.
I’m appalled and don’t ever recommend this place to anyone.
