If you appreciate a step back in time then this beautifully restored hotel is for you.
Dinner in the Grand Dinning Room is a treat and how nice is it to be served as madam and sir.
Afterwards, coffee beside a fire in the drawing room.

Management don't care about their impact on locals

The Carrington Hotel has a few drinking venues located on its grounds. Unfortunately there is a public beer garden located in the park in front of the Carrington Hotel. Drunken noisy louts can be heard yelling, screaming all night long. When contacted the management of the Carrington are rude and dismissive about dealing with drunk and disorderly people's on there property. The Carrington Hotel does not care about people living adjacent to their establishment quality of life. Poor form Carrington management.

Lovely stay shame about the Yule Fest Dinner

This hotel is beautiful, cannot fault the rooms. However, we attended the Yule Fest dinner, and we were very disappointed in the food, the alcohol choices and the service. The bagpipes were fabulous and the carol singers were lovely. Will not be attending again but would happily stay at the Carrington Hotel.

Hotel is just old and looks like they tried hard to maintain but the room is quite dated. The shower leaks and the floor squeaks. And the elevator is so old and slow that we decide to carry our luggages up second floor. Very old hotel in a sleepy town. And they don’t serve dinner on Sunday nor Monday.

An old dame in need of some tlc.

Situated just a few minutes’ walk from the station, the location is convenient, but the first impression wasn’t great. The entrance pathway was overgrown and the signage was tired and damaged. See photo.
Check‑in was mixed. Arriving late morning, the gentleman on reception was friendly and welcoming. I left my bag and received a text soon after advising my room was ready. Collecting the key later (from 2 female staff) was transactional, lacking the earlier warmth.
The public areas have a lovely old world charm. My guest room (a Colonial Room) had some genuinely nice art deco touches, and you can see what the hotel once was, but was tired overall. Housekeeping was inconsistent - bedding and towels were fine, but several minor cleanliness issues were evident (see photos). Radiator heating is centrally controlled, but the reverse‑cycle air‑con worked well and kept the room cosy even on a winter night. The bed was extremely soft, but I found it offered a good night’s sleep.
The main restaurant is closed on Mondays so I chose to dine out. Aiming to enjoy a few glasses of wine post dinner in the hotel lounge, I was surprised to find the bar closed just after 830pm, noting there were multiple guests still present. Checking with reception, including clarifying what time the bar usually closes, I was advised “it depends”. As the bartender was still cleaning up, I was able to take a beer back to the room (noting they would not sell wine by the glass). I would have stayed in the restaurant in town for another couple of drinks had I known.
Passing housekeeping staff in the corridor lacked any greeting. Checkout was friendly, though there was no enquiry about how the stay had been.
Overall, the hotel has some lovely heritage features and a convenient location, but is let down by tired rooms and inconsistent service. At a cheap rate acceptable value, but arrive with realistic expectations - this is a property leaning heavily on its past.
