Serenity

5 out of 5 for beautiful host Chris
She outdone herself, from the beautifully cooked breaky( from her own chooks) and all the little touches..
We stayed in the red room which has it's own private entrance and bathroom with jet tub.
It had a wrap around deck so you can sit outside and enjoy the serenity.
I loved feeding the king parrots they are beautiful.
My favourite part of the stay was those magnificent bay windows, sitting there with a cuppa..
The bed was extremely comfortable too we didn't want to get up!
Thanks again Chris we will be back!

It Just Wasn't Clean

We stopped in Macedon - pretty much just looking for a somewhat convenient place to stop with things to do. The area itself was very nice - the property had nice flowers around and it was clear it well taken care of. A great deal of different wildlife around as well. The breakfast was simple, but good.
The B&B room (we got the suite) itself could have been nice but it just wasn't that clean. The bathtub had not been cleaned in a long while it seemed, hair all over it, and it looks like a few people at that. Some of the sheets had stains on them. The silverware for breakfast had food caked all over them from previous guests. There were cobwebs all over the bathroom - where it was clear some things hadnt been cleaned in months. I think we would understand given we were in the middle of the woods that spiders are just going to be there, but it was clear this was a cleaning issue.
The women that owns the B&B it was also a bit strange - she was not aware that we were staying for two nights, we had to tell her and she seemed surprised. She also blocked our car in the driveway and when I asked her if she could move it she told me to go on the lawn around the gardeners' vans. While it's ultimately her problem if she wants me to drive on her lawn, we could barely fit a motorcycle between the bushes and the van (luckily the gardener came over as I was looking at the gap and said not to worry about it he would move for us).
Altogether I think this place has a lot of potential if it was just clean, but we would not visit here again.

Blissful slumber

We were in the Macedon area for a wedding and booked Hollyhock because of name and location. Arriving just after 2pm we were greeted warmly and genuinely by the owner Chris. When we experienced difficulties booking local taxi and ride services, Chris stepped in and ensure we were able to book a taxi to and from venue whilst making us a cuppa with bicky. The residence is beautifully appointed, tastefully decorated and exceptionally maintained. Regrettably the taxi didn’t arrive , so Chris to the rescue and drove us to make sure we beat the bride to ceremony. The outdoor wedding ceremony was washed out. The reception compensated for that disappointment. We were duly picked up by the taxi on time and returned to Hollyhock. The driver quietly informed us he had contact with Chris about our pick up.
Now for the best part:
The bed was awesome. A most comfortable mattress enabled a blissful slumber. A large walk-in shower provided a refreshing start to the day.
Chris welcomed us the dining table with juice, fresh brewed coffee and tea, muesli , berries and yogurt for starters.
The poached eggs were perfect. The conversation was friendly, informative, dotted with gems of local knowledge.
The relaxed pace of the start to the day after one of the best sleeps was highly appreciated. Thanks Chris and Hollyhock .

Owner had double booked and left us with nowhere to stay

I had booked through booking.com and received a booking confirmation. I had also received an email from the owner who confirmed we could leave our bags early in the day of our booking and come back later. We had a Llama trek booked for 2pm so I decided we would do the trek first and then book into Hollyhock. I arrived at 5.38pm and knocked on the door....I could see people inside and heard the TV on, but no one answered. So, I went back to the car and phoned....I was explaining that I had booked and the owner rudely spoke over the top of me and said the cabin was already booked and I had no booking and that booking.com had double booked and I should check with them. I had my special needs daughter with me, it was her birthday and this was suppose to be a birthday treat for her. I received no apology, no empathy, so kindness from this supposed host!! I now am left uncertain whether I will be charged. I was so upset for my daughter as we had no where to go...that I had to drive all the way back to Melbourne. STAY CLEAR OF this B & B....she double books and lets whoever arrives first...stay in the cabin.

Peace and tranquility abounds.

My time at hollyhock has been so amazing. Chris is a fantastic host tending to all my needs and balancing quiet time with great chats. Also keeping a spotless yet welcoming comfortable home. Nice to be served a delicious breakfast and feel quite at home in the lovely surrounds inside and out. Great views of Mt Macedon and heaps of peaceful bird calls to listen to.
Thanks for a wonderful stay in your home.
