Great for couples
Perfect position in town for us. Away from all the hustle and bustle. We had a upgraded room that was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was superb. The spa was lovely and good quality treatment.

Not a Park Hyatt - disgraceful experience
For those that often stay at 5 star hotels internationally (FS, MO, Ritz, Aman, real Park Hyatts etc), I strongly encourage you to reconsider booking this hotel. We booked 11 nights at this property, and stayed 2 years ago and experienced the exact same issues (I gave the hotel another go after a great
stay at Park Hyatt Maldives). I also advised multiple family members on route to Melbourne to stay elsewhere as a result of this. Here are the main points to bear in mind when it comes to this property:
1. Age. The hotel is old and in a state of general disrepair. Many rooms, particularly on the higher floors have extremely loud rattling AC/vents which the staff refuse to acknowledge or attempt to deal with. Temp control in the rooms is totally inconsistent. If you have a fireplace in your room, expect it to break constantly (we had 4 breakdowns in 10 nights, and had the same issues in another room last stay).
2. Basically a convention centre. The hotel basically doubles as a convention centre. During our stay several huge groups of 50-100+ persons were booking out floors, using the common areas and generally turning the place into a conference centre. This is obviously unacceptable for a couple or family or discrete business travelers looking for a quiet high end stay in the city - which is the expectation of many guests used to the brand. The hotel should be transparent about these group commitments with guests. We do not expect to suffer for your corporate income stream.
3. Service / facilities. As a byproduct of point 2, service, facilities and importantly, guest preferences, are all severely impacted. In particular, on bad days expect 1h + to receive a simple breakfast dish, massive delays for valet parking, loud echoing groups taking over entire parts of the foyer (convention / group areas of the property flow into the foyer and common areas so there is no functional separation for other guests), long lines at reception, no seats at breakfast, staff rushed off their feet and discourteous at times (on two occasions groups of staff were overheard saying how happy they were to see certain groups/nationalities leave the hotel!). The GM “Oliver” seemingly also devotes the bulk of his time to these corporate events, so - expect your preferences (floor, amenities etc) to be subordinated totally to group bookings/corporate clients.
4. Cleanliness and turn down service is not up to par. Stains on bed linens and towels, hair on furniture, leaking showers, actual water outages during our stay on 2 occasions, repeated failures to restock coffee, milk, mini bar items throughout the stay. In fairness, staff were very quick to respond when asked to restock items, but there is a sense that the service is just reactive.
5. A borderline insulting approach to loyal Park Hyatt guests used to staying at other properties internationally. Having stayed at many Park Hyatts (Maldives x4, Milan, Sydney, Kyoto, Abu Dhabi x3, KL etc in our case) we expected some basic attempt to accomodate our room preferences which were communicated a month in advance. We were informed at check in nothing was possible due to all the group bookings (all we wanted was a quiet room with a view, which shouldn’t be difficult given we booked the deluxe king view room). The result was being put in a roadside room on the lowest floor of the hotel, where every passing car was audible (we had just traveled more than 24h from Europe and wanted to relax). Eventually, after 3 hours of discussions, the hotel agreed to move us to a higher floor which suffered the constant issues as flagged above (especially the loud vents, fireplace malfunctioning etc) BUT only on the proviso we moved to yet a other room 8 days into our stay to free it up for, yes, another group booking that required the entire floor!
5. Service and management. Some staff are genuinely nice and trying their best, but this isn’t satisfactory at a PH. Checking in for an 11 night stay we were not even informed of the breakfast schedule, hotel amenities - just pointed in the direction of the elevators. No welcome amenity in the room, just a “happy anniversary” card in the room with a previous guests name on it (and lovingly signed by the GM, Oliver). These inconsistent service issues seem to pervade the entire hotel. Oliver the GM, wanders the hotel with his dog at his side, but doesn’t have the courtesy to call guests himself (he directs lower level floor managers that have not been properly briefed to do this, while he seems to devote his time and energy to corporate groups).
I could go on, but the lesson have been learned. The Park Hyatt Melbourne does not offer a 5 star experience and operates, in our view, as a glorified convention centre. I strongly recommend you stay at the Ritz, Sofitel or Westin in Melbourne (which while also not perfect, will assure you some basic 5 star amenity).
To add insult to injury, upon checking out early (to avoid yet another room move to accommodate a group booking), the hotel tried to overcharge me $1000 blaming a “system error”. Get your act together or rebrand - this is not a Park Hyatt.

The Park Hyatt has become our favourite place to stay when visiting Melbourne.
The Park Hyatt Melbourne never disappoints. From arrival and valet parking to check in and dining or drinks at the Tea Lounge and Radii Restaurant, you are always greeted with a smile and friendly, professional service. The Hotel is a calm, tranquil oasis, as it is so spacious with a lovely ambience. Perfectly located for walking through Melbourne, and along the river as well as walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants. Nothing is too much trouble in this hotel that such a luxurious feel. I highly recommend staying foe a few nights here.

Absolutely amazing experience. location was close to the CBD, walk to restaurants, welcome was great, checkin staff were great and room was amazing

The location and building was top notch. Grand staircase, beautiful finish and staff were so personal with a 5 star service
