Good Stay - Breakfast a bit of issue

Stayed for a long week. Service staff is good. Room was of decent size with TV, Heater, Kettle, Table, Chair, bathroom basics (towel, soap etc). However the breakfast did not have much option and it was all same everyday which i hated the most.
The only problem i faced is none of the staff knew English but luckily i didn't had to talk much to get things done.
Railway station was just opposite to hotel which was a big plus.

Better than expected

Had to choose it for a last minute booking, reading previous reviews and the fact that it’s a one star hotel I had lots of doubts.. but actually it turned out to be just fine. It was fair being a one star hotel; room, bedsheets, towels were clean however the bleach smell is noticeable. Tv, fan, small fridge, tea, coffee, kettle available in the room, got an iron from the reception. Good location too, just in front of the station and walking distance from lots of shops and restaurants.

Not your typical hotel

Not your typical hotel. A place where you stay out of necessity. Great shower though. If the hotel is a 6 the shower is a 10! The towel are a 1 though, they smelled like strong bleach, it was disgusting! I was alone so I asked for a single, what I got was a large room with 3 single beds in it. Beds had fluffy black stuff on them and the pillows were stained a slight yellow, dried sweat I presumed. Breakfast was okay but I avoided anything cooked like eggs and potato salad. Opted for cheese and salami sandwich and OJ. All in all not a place I would recommend.

Better than expected

3 of us stayed for a night ( had read the other reviews) we were expecting the worst, but were pleasantly surprised. Yes the shower in the room is not ideal. But beds looked new and room recently painted. Breakfast was good.

Friendly staff, good price and a good location

We go to Belgium every year for our wedding anniversary and this year we chose Aalst. We looked at this hotel and considered all the reviews but thought for the price we would give it a chance. The hotel is literally opposite the train station so very convenient, when we arrived the man was very friendly, all the staff were lovely, they spoke very little English but it was fine and we managed with no problem, he gave us the WiFi code, the WiFi was very good much better than most places I have stayed in to be honest. The hotel was tired and needs redecoration but in all honesty I loved it, It was like being in WW2 era with the decoration and I really did like it! I have to say I wasn’t expecting anything at all but we were pleasantly surprised at the room, we stayed in room 103, which had a very steep little set of steps to the actual door of the room, but then we entered a very large room, a large comfortable clean double bed and a single bed. It had a TV on the wall, and a fridge. The bathroom was clean, fully tiled in black tiles with fresh towels provided everyday, it had a very hot, good shower over the bath, and as people have already said the shower curtain could do with a new one but that really is a trivial point. We had a good nights sleep, there are train station improvements going on at the moment (which I think I read would be another year ) so we were woken around 7am with the noise, but we get up early anyway so this wasn’t an issue for us and it is nothing the hotel could do anything about as it’s the station.
To address the noise in the other reviews, we stayed in the room directly above the takeaway and we did not experience any disturbance from this, Saturday night was more noisy as there was a very big food festival which had come onto a street near the hotel, but again this was nothing to do with the hotel. People were around the hotel from the takeaway but we never felt uncomfortable, and when they spoke to you they were very nice people.
Breakfast was included in our room rate, it had a decent coffee machine with nice coffee, I have to say I don’t normally drink coffee from these machines as I am a very fussy coffee drinker but it was good, also tea and hot chocolate, very basic breakfast, cereal, fresh bread, cheese, ham and boiled eggs olives and some potatoe salad and orange juice, it was ok, basic but ok. I managed on toasted cheese sandwich and boiled eggs.
Positives: very good price, good location on a quiet little square, easy walk into the main square, friendly staff, clean comfortable room. Ghent 20 minutes away, Brussels 20 minutes away, good train links to other places.
Negatives: could do with redecorating as very tired, steep steps to our room so anyone with mobility issues may struggle.
If you are looking for 5* luxury in a modern hotel this is not the place for you. If however you are looking for a decent inexpensive hotel to be a base, and you can Forgive a dirty shower curtain and no light shades and will just accept it’s a 1* hotel then I would say give it ago. I have no problems visiting this hotel again and would look forward to it as our experience Was positive.
