Not quite 4 stars and work to be done

This is a difficult assessment. We had booked 2 nights and yes the location (incl) parking is top. Upon entering a yes friendly man but also short. Again not unfriendly, but not of welcome in our hotel......and blah blah blah, missed that welcome feeling. He was quick to settle the tourist tax and parking and then very annoyingly tap the pin device. Kind of weird. Then up the room, and it was fine. Unfortunately 2 single beds, the double was no longer unfortunately. Minibar with some content (3,-) per drink. Smell was fine upon entering, day after some sewage smell, which many people complain about. Air conditioning works fine wonderfully cool. Bathroom is fine and modern. Toilet is very big bit too big could have been arranged differently. What was not worthy of 4 stars, cardboard cups in plastic packaging on the bathroom and wooden stirrers me the water boiler with cheap dissolving coffee. Espresso machine with cups had been 4 stars. But!
I emailed the hotel 1 day before arrival that we were married on day of arrival 8 yrs and my wife had birthday. And whether as a surprise a nice card and a bottle of bubbles (for a fee of course) could be put in the room. Unfortunately disappointing response from the hotel that it all should have been requested far in advance. So not possible. How hard can it be to grab a bottle of bubbles from the bar and put it in the room with 2 glasses and hoppa they would have earned 40,- (the cheapest). They did biode on a voucher would be in the room for 2 free glasses of bubbles at the bar. Unfortunately on arrival in the room no voucher, the staff had forgotten. Also not really a 4 star welcome. Went to the reception and indeed they had seen it but forgot the mail, but still got the bubbles, but a congratulations or something could not get rid of it. Those little things that bothered us. All in all, for 230,- euros per night, the hospitality should get better. People come to brugge for a nice weekend and most of them not for a business deal, the staff should understand that better.

Disappointing

If you expect a 4 star hotel then you come out of this deceived. Yes, it is a reasonable hotel and is perfectly located in the heart of the city center less than 3 minutes walking distance from the Grote Markt. The few staff there are extremely friendly and helpful. The bathroom and toilet have recently been renovated and fine. The bed is good.
So where does it go wrong? Maybe it is typical Flemish but clean is different. Upon entering, a light sewage smell that never completely goes away.
For a 4 star hotel the decor is very meagre. A cuddly stand-alone fridge (minibar) and a sad trestle table and a few well-seated chairs form the rest of the interior.
Finally, someone has thought of placing the air conditioning (which was necessary because it was 30 degrees) right above the head of the bed, blowing cold air right in your face all night.
No, besides the extreme crowds in the city that make us leave Bruges behind, this hotel is once again.

Money well spent!

We were treated with respect and appreciation! The room was clean and well air conditioned. The elevators worked great and the breakfast was delicious.!

Not all it seems

Located in a lovely quiet street only a few minutes walk from Markt Square. Upon entering the beautiful aroma welcomes you, the chandelier in the entrance is grand, and the floors are polished beautifully, the downstairs is spotless looking. The rooms! that is where it all changed...as soon as we left the elevator, we were greeted to coffee stained walls in the corridoor leading to our room, to tips of housekeeping gloves left on the staircase shelf, bits of glove left on the floor, large untouched for months cobwebs in the hallway. The room looked great when first opening of the door, nice twin beds, 2 cosy chairs. Then walking into the separate room with the wardrobes on way to bathroom the smell of drains hit you. The shower room was a great size, but did not house the toilet? Going back into the bedroom puzzled we found the toilet in a cupboard size room, behind the entrance door, at the foot of the bed! This leaves no privacy wether you are a married couple, or a couple, with friends or anyone else. It provides no hand washing basin, so hygiene is not possible. You would need to leave the toilet, walk thro the bedroom and dressing room to get to the shower room. There was thick untouched dust in many places in the room, the mini bar had not been checked from when the last guests had departed, there was a half bottle of water left in it. 3 tissues in the box of tissues, toilet brush left covered with used toilet roll, cracked sink in shower room, water had even been left in the sink. Aircon dial is in the wardrobe area, so unless you sleep in the wardrobe then dont expect to sleep cool in the bed. The heat would not go down any lower than 24, which was an issue seeing as the outside temperature has been in the low 30s. This was all photographed and raised with Reception, who i politely asked if they could come and take a look with me in the room, only to be greeted with a sterness of they could not leave the reception unmanned. They also reassured me that they would get the issues dealt with by the outside cleaning company that they used that day. Upon returning to the room later that afternoon, all they had done was made the beds, so dust was still the same, the same half used left behind bottle of water was still in the minifridge, 3 tissues replenished, still the finger tips of gloves were in the hallway, these remained their for the 4 night duration of my stay. Whilst they did offer us a free breakfast of a drink at the bar, we bever use the breakfast or bar in hotels, we love to be exploring the magic of Bruges with its amazing culture, cuisine. I raised this with the hotel via email on my return home to express my disappointment of a 4 star hotel which seemed to not care. Only to receive an email back with no sense of care whatsoever.
