Dinner at hotel restaurant
A small, cozy place with a family run business feeling and attentive service. We had a dinner for two, with starters, good choices and and a small soup sample tasting as a surprise. Portions were generous (except for the veggies), and food was very tasty. Price / quality was ok, maybe a tad too expensive, but still fine.

Interesting stay at Floreal
* Hotel Floréal sits above an Italian restaurant in the center of Malmedy. If the restaurant is closed when you arrive, there's no reception—just a door code and a key box. It works, but the lack of staff presence gives the place a disconnected feel. To speak to someone, you have to use Snapchat.
* The rooms are basic, and there's no air conditioning, which made our room stuffy and uncomfortable. We had to change rooms three times to find one that was quiet and cool enough to sleep in. Once settled, all was OK.
*The location is excellent; you're right downtown.
*The bright spot was the included breakfast. Once we let management know when we’d be down, everything was set. The meal was generous, fresh, and satisfying. The young woman running breakfast was welcoming and attentive—by far the best part of the stay.
* In short: the location is convenient, the rooms are hit-or-miss, and the breakfast is excellent. Worth considering if you're traveling light and don't mind minimal service.

Not for light sleepers
Starting with the good dinged room, it is spacious and clean, but the pillows were too thin if you lay on a stone, it is soundproof, there is no night noise until 2 a.m. Windows are single glass. The tavern underneath closes at 8 p.m., there is no possibility to keep anything cool. there is no minibar/fridge

Unsatisfactory Booking Cancellation
I had to cancel 3 rooms, booked and paid for in advance, due to COVID.
The hotel would not refund anything and when I spoke to them said that they would be out of business if they made cancellation refunds.
I would therefore be carful if the hotel requires payment in advance as they did with me because if you cancel you do not get a refund

Good location, poor service
We stayed at Le Floreal for the F1 Grand Prix. It was very costly, taking into consideration the service, but it was a highly booked period in Belgium, because of the event.
The quality of the room is poor and during summer the room temperature can reach really high levels. It is a 3-star hotel, so you can't have high expectations regarding the room service (even if there are similar hotels which care about it), but at least they could have taken out the garbage at least once during our five day stay. The shower head was nearly broken, as the attached image shows it.
The only positive thing is the location. In the morning you have a very good bakery next to the hotel. We always found parking place next to the hotel, even if it was a crowded period. Also there are a lot of restaurants near the hotel, for taking a dinner. On the other hand, you stay in the center of Malmedy, so it can be really noisy during the night. In crowded periods you won't sleep that well, definitely.
Overall, you pay too much for a place, where the only positive thing is the location. If you rent a car during your stay, you should look after other, nearby (10-20 km) accommodation options.
