A great family holiday

The rooms were spacious and the cleaning of rooms and the hotel were excellent!
The food was varied and plentiful for 7 days but repetitive for longer.
The animation team worked hard to make it a great family resort and tirelessly tried to involve everyone each day!
Some aspects of the hotel and rooms are dated but as previously said all cleaned all the time!!
The location close to the town is great and there is a cheap shuttle bus, the beach is brilliant!! We loved body surfing the small waves! Beware of the jelly fish!
The bar shuts immediately at 11pm with no facility for a drink after that which we found unusual and the bar gets very busy.
The water fountains for cold and hot water all over the hotel is an excellent idea as you can fill your own bottles!
We did the trip to Nesebar and catamaran and the boat was amazing!!

Dear Amanda,
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed review of your family holiday at Sol Luna Bay Resort.
We are delighted to know that you enjoyed your stay and especially appreciated the spacious rooms, the high standards of cleanliness, our varied food selection, the beautiful beach, and the convenient location close to Obzor. It is also wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the excursions to Nessebar and the catamaran trip.
A special thank you for your kind words about our Animation Team. They work with great enthusiasm every day to create unforgettable moments for guests of all ages, and your recognition of their dedication means a great deal to them.
We also appreciate your constructive comments regarding the rooms. While some areas of the hotel reflect the character of an established family resort, we continuously invest in renovations and improvements. Every year we introduce new upgrades and enhancements to our rooms and facilities to ensure an even more comfortable stay for our guests.
Thank you as well for your feedback regarding the food variety for longer stays and the bar operating hours. Your comments are valuable to us and help us continuously improve our services. Please note that the bar closes at 11:00 p.m. in accordance with the operating hours of our All Inclusive programme.
We are pleased that you enjoyed our drinking water stations, which are part of our commitment to reducing single-use plastic while offering our guests easy access to fresh drinking water throughout the resort.
Thank you once again for choosing Sol Luna Bay Resort. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back for another wonderful holiday by the Black Sea.
With warm regards,

Wonderful family resort

Hello! We spent 1 week at Sol Luna Bay - Obzor. Our vacation was great. I highly recommend it! Great location, right next to a wonderful beach. Professional, responsive and very kind staff. All-day and very diverse program for children, including a small aqua park. Despite its huge size, the complex is always tidy, clean and there is no fuss. Especially if you are with children - this is a great choice, you will not regret it. I think the price/quality ratio is excellent. Before leaving, we thanked and shared our small remarks with a representative of the management - we wish them, despite the high level, to continue to upgrade and develop their services - the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast deserves it! We thank them again for the wonderful attitude! Stay healthy!

Lovely, clean beachfront hotel – but the overall all-inclusive experience was missing something for us

We stayed at Sol Luna Bay for 10 nights as a family with children aged 11 and 14. There is genuinely a lot to like about this hotel and I can understand why some families, particularly those with younger children, would absolutely love it. For us, though, the overall experience was missing too many of the things we enjoy about an all-inclusive holiday for us to want to return.
The positives
First of all, the hotel is exceptionally clean. There always seemed to be somebody cleaning the communal areas and the whole resort is very well maintained.
The location is also fantastic. You're directly on a lovely sandy beach and can easily move between the beach and pools throughout the day. The sea was clear and surprisingly warm, and there are lots of showers and foot-washing stations coming off the beach.
The waterpark is excellent and was definitely one of the highlights, with some great slides that older children and adults can enjoy too.
We thought the food in the main buffet was generally very good – varied, plentiful and something we looked forward to.
Sunbeds weren't a major issue either. Provided you're around before approximately 9am, we generally managed to get one.
The hotel shuttle into Obzor was also really useful and convenient at €1.50 per person each way, (shame it wasn't included on the all inclusive though). Bulgaria is incredibly inexpensive for eating and drinking out, so if you fancy getting away from the hotel for a change of scenery it doesn't cost a fortune.
Where it fell short for us
Rather than one major problem, it was lots of smaller things that added up and made the all-inclusive experience feel quite limited.
The drinks were disappointing. There is no waiter drinks service and the all-inclusive selection wasn't particularly exciting. The beer wasn't great and most of the cocktails we tried were very sweet, sugary and cheap-tasting, although I did eventually find one I liked!
Poolside drinks are served in small paper cups. I completely understand not using glass around a pool, but personally we didn't enjoy drinking everything from little paper cups.
Food availability between meals was also more limited than we expected. Paninis are available from the kids' club bar until around 4pm, although we found most of them very bready (not much filling and a bit dry). After that, there was no proper food or fruit available between around 4pm and 6pm, just things such as sweet buns/biscuits on the bar. We found that quite surprising for an all-inclusive family resort.
Our daughter is vegetarian and while there were always plenty of vegetables, salads, potatoes, pasta etc., there were very few proper vegetarian protein options throughout our stay. It didn't ruin the holiday, but it's definitely something the hotel could improve.
The additional restaurants you can book aren't à la carte restaurants in the way we expected either – they're still buffet-style rather than a separate waiter-service dining experience.
There are also no tea or coffee-making facilities in the rooms. We eventually discovered that the water dispensers on each floor provide hot water, so my workaround was to take a cup and teabags back to the room before the bar closed.
Service could be inconsistent too. The hotel itself remained very clean, but sometimes the attention to detail just wasn't there. On one occasion our room had apparently been serviced but the sheets were left untucked and no toilet roll had been replaced, so we had to ask reception to send some up.
There was also a strong drain/sewage-type smell around the main pool area on one of the days. We don't know what caused it and fortunately we'd chosen to sit around the smaller pool that day, but it was noticeable over quite a large area.
Entertainment and atmosphere,
This was probably the biggest reason the hotel wasn't quite right for us.
The entertainment seemed heavily geared towards families with younger children. For little ones I imagine it's brilliant, but there wasn't enough to engage our 11 and 14-year-olds.
We would have liked more regular daytime activities that everyone could get involved in – darts, pool games, competitions and similar. One day my son did archery but the next time was told adults only ?! The evening entertainment wasn't particularly suited to us either.
We briefly met another British family with a child the same age as our son towards the end of the holiday and it made a noticeable difference for him to have someone his own age to hang around and play with.
There were very few British guests during our stay and most guests appeared to be from Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and elsewhere in Europe. Obviously we don't go abroad expecting everyone to be British or speak English – I can manage a little German and French myself – but we hadn't realised beforehand how much we enjoy the social side of an all-inclusive holiday.
We struggled to strike up conversations with other guests and found the atmosphere quite cliquey at times. After 10 days, that did leave us feeling a little on the outside rather than completely relaxed and comfortable.
We also found the differences around queueing, waiting your turn and personal space quite difficult. There were numerous occasions when adults as well as children pushed into queues, stepped in front of children who had been patiently waiting for food, or simply walked into you rather than waiting or moving around you. Maybe we're just very British about queueing , but it became increasingly frustrating as the holiday went on.
Beach, pools and location
Although the beach and sea are beautiful, the sea was very choppy for much of our stay. Red flags were flying on quite a few days, meaning there were actually relatively few days when we could properly swim in it. We also saw jellyfish when the sea became rough, so that's something to watch for.
The smaller pool is quieter than the main pool, which we enjoyed, although the hotel blocks the sun from around 3pm.
The hotel is fairly isolated and there isn't really anything immediately outside the resort. The inexpensive shuttle into Obzor definitely helps with this.
Obzor itself is pleasant, with a lovely central park, lots of souvenir shops, supermarkets and plenty of places to eat and drink. We personally found it quite busy and bustling and didn't really find the relaxed little bars we like to sit at and watch the world go by, but eating and drinking there is extremely good value.
A couple of useful tips
The hotel shops aren't always open and you need to buy tokens from them for some of the games, so get them while you can.
Of the paninis, the Lucca Panini was the nicest.
If you like a cup of tea in your room, bring teabags and make use of the hot water from the machines on each floor.
Sol Luna Bay has a lot going for it. It's exceptionally clean, beautifully located, the main buffet food is good and the waterpark is fantastic.
Our issue wasn't really any one major fault. It was the accumulation of smaller things – the drinks, limited service, gaps in food availability, entertainment, lack of activities for older children, inconsistent attention to detail and the overall atmosphere.
We found ourselves comparing it with Barut Goia in Turkey, where we'd paid a little more but had waiter drinks service, better-quality and clearly labelled all-inclusive drinks, fresh fruit and snacks, proper à la carte restaurants, regular darts and games and lots of little touches from the staff. This holiday made us realise that those extras actually make quite a big difference to us.
I think Sol Luna Bay would be a great choice for families with younger children, particularly if your priorities are a clean hotel, beach, pools, waterpark and good buffet food.
For our family with older children, however, it just wasn't quite the right fit. We had a nice holiday and there were plenty of positives, but we never really got that relaxed, sociable, slightly special all-inclusive feeling we were looking for.
We wouldn't return, but that's because it wasn't the right fit for us rather than because it's a bad hotel.

An Absolutely Exceptional Stay!

Having visited numerous all-inclusive resorts over the years, I can confidently say that this one stands out as the absolute best.Let’s begin with the dining experience. The variety and flavor of the meals were simply astounding; there is truly something for everyone, and no one ever leaves unsatisfied. Furthermore, the drinks and bar service were excellent, perfectly complementing the high-quality dining. The rooms are kept impeccably clean and I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer size of our accommodation. It was remarkably spacious and fully equipped with everything one might need. The bed was incredibly comfortable, featuring high-quality, fragrant linens, while both the mattress and pillows provided an outstanding night's sleep. An additional advantage of the hotel is the convenient shuttle bus to Obzor. For a very nominal fee, you can easily visit the town center for sightseeing and light shopping. The aquatic areas, the beach, and the aquapark elevate the attractiveness of the SOL hotel to another level. The aquapark with its thrilling slides is perfect for both children and adults. The sandy beach is wide and pristine, and you can comfortably find an available sunbed at any time of the day. A huge compliment goes to the professional lifeguard team for ensuring peace of mind. The main pool is equally large and spacious, also staffed by excellent lifeguards, with plenty of sunbeds available just like on the beach. Another great benefit is the beach towels, which are spotlessly clean, soft, and fragrant. A brilliant solution. The on-site shops are yet another great convenience. Whether you are looking for a quick snack or souvenirs, you can simply head downstairs to the ground floor and find exactly what you need. Best of all, the prices are very reasonable, making shopping here completely stress-free. The housekeeping service is flawless as well. When I was entering my room, a delightful staff member politely asked if I needed cleaning and then efficiently refreshed the bathroom, made the bed, tidied up the terrace, replaced the glasses, and emptied the bins.Last but certainly not least, the customer service here is unmatched. The entire team genuinely cares for the guests, is always ready to answer any question, or will simply greet you with a warm, spontaneous smile—which creates a truly wonderful atmosphere.
