I got a nice upgrade, very clean room, comfortable and a spectacular sea view. Best breakfast ever in a hotel in Croatia! Only issue we had was the room being very hot. I asked to turn the heater off, even though the room was still very hot. Set up the AC on but looks like it was not working. End up sleeping with the windows open.

Disappointing Stay at a 4-Star Hotel
I don't usually leave reviews after staying at hotels. I only do it when the experience is either exceptionally good or genuinely disappointing. Unfortunately, this time it was the latter.
We booked our stay back in January and chose Hotel Katarina mainly because it advertised a spa and an indoor pool. Since we were traveling with our one-year-old son, we planned to use the indoor pool during the hottest part of the day. Unfortunately, the spa and indoor pool were closed, and we were never informed in advance. When I politely mentioned this at check-in, the receptionist responded quite rudely, offering to cancel our reservation and refund us on the spot. After traveling over 1,000 km, that was hardly a realistic solution.
The room was clean and comfortable, and our housekeeper was wonderful—always friendly, smiling, and very thorough. She was by far the highlight of our stay.
However, I was surprised that a four-star hotel didn't even provide a complimentary bottle of water in the room. The minibar was completely empty, with no menu or option to order drinks, so we had to buy water at a nearby store.
The outdoor pools (which actually belong to the neighboring Hotel Millennium) were fine, but the children's pool had exposed sharp metal parts around the water outlets, which is a serious safety concern for small children.
The biggest disappointment was the food. The same stew was served three days in a row, only paired with different pasta. The vegetables were undercooked, and even the carrots were too hard to mash for our toddler. For a four-star seaside hotel, the seafood selection was very limited, and the desserts were bland. If you didn't arrive right when dinner started, many desserts were gone and were not replenished.
Overall, we were disappointed. We expected much more from a four-star hotel.

The friendliness of the staff is limited. The buffet is more or less the same every day. I advise against the overripe fruit and sloppy carrot salad. Closets not cleaned well. Shower drain clogged. Room cleaning sometimes only upon request.

We recently spent 3 nights at the hotel and overall had a very pleasant experience. The hotel is located right in the center of Selce, and our sea view room was beautiful. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of storage space, and the bed was comfortable. I would also like to highlight the cleanliness – the room was cleaned and towels were changed on a daily basis. A small minus is that there were no wine glasses in the room, which would be expected from a hotel of this category.
The shower was spacious and practical. The staff were very kind and helpful. The food included in the half-board option was tasty, fresh, and varied – there was always a fish dish available, which is commendable for a seaside hotel. Breakfast was plentiful with a wide selection.
What stood out the most was the large heated saltwater pool and the sauna area – perfect for relaxation. However, on the last day we were a bit disappointed because the saunas were not available even though the wellness officially operates from 8 am. Also, we had arranged a late check-out, but our key card stopped working after 11 am, which caused some inconvenience (we couldn’t enter the room, there was no electricity, and we couldn’t charge our phones).
All in all, a wonderful place and a very pleasant stay. The hotel definitely deserves a recommendation, but it would be good to pay more attention to the details – the quality of service should remain the same whether it is a weekend or a Monday.
