Amazing stay

Poor maintenance and management
My girlfriend and I booked 3 nights in May 2026 including everything (transport from and to our hotel in Puerto Princesa, speedboat to Bancalan (island on which Tatak is located), all meals and two full days of island hopping. Keep in mind we paid 1185$ CDN (49,000 PHP). A bit like a deceiving Tinder profile, the photos they advertise are a LOT nicer than what we experienced on a room and amenities basis.
Where to start?
The good :
The magnificent landscape and the amazing beaches (Onok is just out of this world!).
The people in general are smiley, friendly and kind.
The staff of Tatak : they try their very best to make you enjoy your stay. Big thank you to the amazing tour guideBibo (for our included 2 day tours of the surrounding islands) with his contagious smile and adorable laughter as well to Nang and Dayang at the resort that were helping as much as possible. The problem as you will read later on, is the bad state of repair and maintenance and the mediocre management.
The bad :
We were off to a bad start with the "included" Tatak transport from Puerto Princesa. We were to be ready for pickup at 2:30 am (!) so that we can benefit as much as possible of our first day at the hotel. The driver was unhappy that we were not ready at 2:15… sorry but in the middle of the night… that was our wake up time. We were ready at 2:28 as we should have been. The two vans going to Tatak were overpacked with locals (with many luggages som of them very big) in addition to Tatak’s clients. This made in sort that the driver tried to charge us an extra fee saying our 2 luggages were oversized (normal travelling luggages…) seriously menacing us to leave those there without that extra payment. I had to argue with him that Tatak included the transport fee and he angrily accepted to waive the fee in the end.
When we arrived, we were informed that the A-frame hut we had reserved was not available because they accepted to upgrade another client in our room the day before?!? They tried to give us a dark and unappealing room that looked partly in renovation. We insisted to get what we booked... we had to insist a lot (making us look like we were the bad guys when it was obviously their mistake to have upgraded people in our room prior to our arrival!) and to wait nearly an hour to finally have a room (unfinished floor, AC shooting air directly on your head while you sleep, wear and tear... see the photos by yourself). That is a management problem.
After that waiting, we went for a shower and saw that the common showers and toilets were in a really bad state of repair (see photos). The cleaning is mediocre since we saw garbages of soap containers, used plaster and so on left on the shelves for a couple of days. Very unappealing.
I do not sleep well when it is scorching hot and that is why I booked a room with AC. We were annonced when arriving that AC only works from 4 pm to 12 am because of power cuts (that was kind of a lie from management as you will see)... which wasn't even the case since the first night it work on and off for about half that time. Second night, no AC at all... they told us to sleep with the door of our cabana open... well it's so hot we are sleeping naked... no we won't sleep with a door opened with cabanas everywhere around us. When discussed with the staff, they say (as they are told to do) that it is due to power cuts or overheating wiring on the property (management problem, fix your property please)... but unfortunately for them, I happened to have talks with Sam, one of the co-owner of the Tatak resort. I learned that the second night we did not have AC, they had many governmental representatives and they had to "choose" who were to get AC and who not... wow, we were clearly not the priority. So third night, I go find Sam to tell him I want AC since I had a very bad night before... and after seeing him talk with an employee, I understood that this employee had the mission to close the breakers some the clients AC during the evening/night because Sam told that employee not to touch our breaker anymore. You will see that they even threaten you to fine you 1500 pesos (30$) if you touch your breaker... never seen something as ridiculuous before.
Finally, you need to know that while we were there, they were constructing like 10 new "deluxe" rooms... well, the foundation (well maintained property, good management practices and honesty) of the resort being mediocre, I would improve same before adding new rooms on a resort on which you need to cherry pick who is getting AC or not due to bad wiring / sketchy renovations.
Good news, if it is truly realized, is that Sam told us they will be renovating the common showers/toilets... well, that is minimal and urgent I would say. And they should solve the AC problem and stop telling lies to clients about power cuts when they tend to play with the breakers to give AC to some and remove it to others.

Unbelievable experience ! ♥️
We celebrated our anniversary at Tatak Balabac during a 4D3N stay, and it was truly unforgettable. A huge thank you to the entire team for making us feel so welcome, you showed us the genuine kindness and hospitality of the Filipino people. Everything was well organized, and the team was always responsive and attentive. The atmosphere felt like one big family. Special mention to our tour guide, Jess, who made our stay extra special. Highly recommended!

Opinions about my stay with Tatak Balabac (3J/4N)
I've just returned from a 3 days and 4 nights expedition with Tatak Balabac. Here is a transparent summary of my experience to help you plan your trip.
Highlights
* **Team:** The staff is really adorable, welcoming and always ready to help.
* **Kitchen:** Meals are tasty and, very positive, portions are generous. No one stays hungry!
### ⚠️ What to know (The weak points)
* **Accommodation:** Big disappointment on cleanliness. The room was dusty with cobwebs (above and below the bed). The photos on social media seem to date from the opening of the camp and no longer reflect current reality.
* **Organization:** Expect systematic delays in initiating daily activities.
You're gonna spend a lot of time in the camp waiting.
The mythical phrase that I will never forget and that irritates me every time is "enjoy your stay in the camp"
But we don't come to Balabac to stay in the camp, we want to enjoy the area from 8am we have to leave for excursions.
So the duration on the spot in the islands and paradisiacal beaches of Balabac is very limited and personally I had the rage to spend just 1h30 in patawan island when it was beautiful
* **Camp beach:** The beach in front of the camp is not suitable for swimming due to the large number of boats and some dirt too
* **Transport:** The return trip to Puerto Princesa (PPS) by van was very difficult. We were 14 passengers: it is very tight, we lack air and the journey takes 5 hours, and the driver stops a lot to pick up and drop people off, it has become a public taxi.
Overview of the actual route
**Day 1: Arrival and setting in leg**
* **02:00:** Early departure from PPS.
* **09:00:** Arrival at camp to rest before lunch.
* **Afternoon:** Speed boat trip (1 island visited and a snorkeling session). Back to camp around 4:30.
**Day 2: (Onuk Island)**
***Morning:** Departure around 10:30am for the beautiful **Onuk Island**.
* **Activities:** Lunch on the island, stop on a sandbank for 30 min and 30 minutes of snorkeling in a coral garden.
* ** 17:00:** Back to camp after a beautiful day at sea.
**Day 3:
* ** Morning:** Visit Patwan Island (departure 10:40). And then back around 12:30 at camp
* **Afternoon:** Pass through a fishing village (offering quite expensive lobsters) and relax on a last sandbank.
### **In summary**
Balabac is a beautiful destination, but the experience with Tatak lacks logistical rigour.
Why are the excursions late to leave?
Because it is necessary to wait for new arrivals to join the excursions directly after their arrivals and no additional boats for those already there.
So 2 out of 3 groups will start a long day directly after arrival, fortunately for us to our arrival the activities started only in the afternoon.
