Enjoyed every moment
As you turn off the main road and head up the track nothing prepares you for Arctic Giant – what a location and the view immediately takes your breath away – its awe inspiring in scale and meditative at the same time.
Our birdhouse was perched in prime position to enjoy the views from a large window that allowed you to take in the panorama of lakes and forest – we grabbed cold beers and just stared at it for hours. The food and hospitality are first class; the highlights were the moose stew cooked in foil over an open fire and the berry wines – who knew? I can still taste the strawberry dessert wine
We set off into the forest on electric bikes and spent a blissful couple of hours enjoying the nature with the confidence then when presented with any form of incline the bike accelerated up it at a flick of a switch.
Then off to the forest sauna with a beer and the coldest shower I’ve ever experienced – gave my body a kick start.
Its sooooo worth taking the time to get there – it repays you in so many ways

The best view ever from a hotel room and from an own jacuzzi
We stayed in Arctic Giant Birdhouse Hotel (also known as Jättiläisenmaa) in July. They have many different rooms or cottages. The resort is located on the top of Mount Kivesvaara. The last 4 kilometers is gravel road but it is very wide and easy to drive.
We stayed in Aurora Birdhouse with a panorama window, two motorized beds, a bathroom, an own electric panorama sauna (the lakeview through the bedroom), air conditioning, a kitchenette, an own outdoor jacuzzi (a hot whirlpool) on a terrace (or a patio) and two extra beds in a small separate building (no air conditioning there). The only negative thing was that the whole bathroom was wet after taking a shower.
There isn't an own jacuzzi in all room types. You find it in Aurora Birdhouse, Luxury Birdhouse, Panoramic House and Arctic House. Our room type was Aurora Birdhouse but every cottage has an own specific name, too. Our cottage was number 7 and it is called Maakotka (Golden Eagle).
Bird nests are the cheapest accommodation possibility and they haven't as good views as other room types. Bird Nests, Luxury Birdhouses, Panoramic House and Maahisen Majat are located right next to each other and the main building. Birdhouses, Aurora Birdhouses and Arctic House are separate cottages or villas. In my opinion Aurora Birdhouses have the best location and Birdhouses almost as good.
I have never before seen as beautiful view from a hotel room as here. We could see both lakes (Lake Kivesjärvi and Lake Oulujärvi) and forests without any other buildings. Especially sunsets were unbelievable beautiful. The total silence was amazing.
The cafeteria-restaurant of the hotel is named Restaurant Makuhelmi. Both dinners and buffet breakfasts were very good. The breakfast buffet included also some specialties, e.g. lingonberry rye bread sticks, bilberry rye bread sticks, Arctic giant carrot jam, dried cranberries, chocolate bilberries and reindeer pie. The view was amazing also from the restaurant and especially from the terrace. Read separate Tripadvisor reviews about Restaurant Makuhelmi. There is also an excellent rooftop sightseeing platform above the restaurant.
The stone park of Paltamo (Kivipuisto in Finnish) is located next to this hotel. Hiking and cross-country mountain biking possibilities are also good. Trails named Kurun Polku and Louhoksen Kierros start here and go through Kivesvaara Hiking Area. Read separate Tripadvisor reviews about Kivipuisto, Kurun Polku and Louhoksen Kierros. You can rent fat bikes and electric fat bikes from the hotel.
We have stayed in all hotels of The Triangle of Finnish Panorama Hotels: Arctic Giant, Panorama Landscape Hotel Tahko and Break Sokos Hotel Koli. In my opinion the view is the best of all in Arctic Giant. So I can recommend this hotel to everybody.

Would deserve more publicity
Breathtaking scenery, luxury cottage, warm-hearted owners, good breakfast: almost everything either homemade or probably from local producers. Total relaxation, we had the best time here.
Tip: Quite a lot of gadflys in summertime (well it's normal ) left us alone in the evening time, while we were in the jacuzzi. Also bring mosquito repellent with you. Nearest shops 20min drive away.

This place has it all. Beatiful nature, view to lakes, local delicios food, Sauna, outside jaguzzi. Nice accomondation in modern
Amazon view from the top of the kivesvaara. Arctic cottage was equipped with ouysodd Jaguzzi. Sauna was brilliant also with stunning view to Kivesjärvi and Oulujärvi. Local food and drink. Service was helpful and friendly. Hiking routes started from nearby. Different distances and challenges.

Total relaxation
We reserved 1 night to stay at one of the luxury birdhouses on our way back from Lapland. The luxury rooms were not cheap but once we entered the room we forgot how much it cost. Superb view, jacuzzi on the patio, sauna, decor of the rooms and absolutely the best staff ever. Iitu helped us with the check in and was super polite. She also gave us guidance on the near nature paths etc. Next morning the founder Vesa brought us breakfest to the door and was very friendly. We didnt want leave this place yet so we asked if we can stay for another night. Vesa said of course just come to the reception later on and we will sort things out. The CEO of the hotel, Antti, was there already informed about our request and we also managed to book dinner for two. We also rented couple of E-bikes and Antti gave us a perfect day trip plan around the countryside. Jacuzzi felt sublime after 70km trip :) If you like to feel super relaxed, enjoy the nature and watch the sunset from your patio then this is the place for you. We will definitely come back during winter in hopes to see the northern lights and relax in the jacuzzi surrounding in freezing temperatures and deep snow
