Perfection in every way

The hotel I was staying in was yet another ( Valhalla) that I wouldn’t let a dead dog stay in, so yet again I did a runner and stumbled across this place. 5 star in everything, location perfect for enroute to or from the channel posts. Three very efficient young men on reception who showed me to my room in the meaty stables. Every thing about this place is quality. Couple of negative comments about lack of restaurant but what is on offer is more than adequate. My last night in French was true perfection.

Beautiful Chateau with extensive grounds

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It’s very impressive and has been renovated really well. Huge garden and lovely woodland area which was good for walking our small dog. The bedrooms are lovely, styled very nicely with comfortable beds. We had a couple of platters for dinner with wine on the terrace which was stunning. There were very few guests so did lack a little bit of atmosphere but the hotel grounds make up for it. Would absolutely stay again.

Lovely chateau let down by mostly indifferent staff and NO disabled access for breakfast or dinner

Beautifully renovated chateau, idyllic setting, lovely extensive gardens, spacious room, plenty of parking - BUT considering we booked an advertised disabled access room in the nearby stable block, the hotel has not given any thought to how a disabled person is supposed to access the main chateau to have breakfast, to enjoy a drink on the terrace or to eat an evening meal. Despite clearly spending a lot of money renovating the chateau, the stable block, building a huge terrace and basement function room at the rear of the chateau and not skimping on fixtures or fittings, there is no lift or ramp even though a side extension with a huge staircase has also been built so able-bodied guests can access the ground floor, terrace and basement without going up the main chateau steps.
It was therefore disappointing not to be told this upon checking in - and even worse to only find out in the morning when it was time for breakfast. However, knowing our predicament as my Mother can only use a wheelchair, a staff member still had to be prompted to lay the table outside the room and to help me get the very limited breakfast that was available across the garden and courtyard so at least my Mother had something to eat and drink with her medication. As lovely as it was sitting outside on a summer's morning before the sun got too hot, it spoilt an otherwise tranquil setting. However, when we ordered just a croque-monsieur about 7.30pm as that's about all the staff member said he could do, it took nearly an hour to be brought to our room even though there was only one table of 4 guests eating that evening which he seemed to be more focused on.
On the second night, the same meal was brought within 15 minutes by a different staff member, served with a smile and some water thoughtfully accompanied it. On the second morning, breakfast was again a disappointment and I had to wait to even get the coffee machine working as there were hardly any staff around again - so I hope Heloise the owner takes all this on board and positively addresses it as these shortcomings really let the hotel down.

Easily avoid.

Stayed here twice in the space of two weeks. That was my biggest mistake. Hotel charges 30 euro for dog charge, no bowl is provided or dog bed. When checking in first time, we were greeted by the receptionist, maid, bartender, chef and lord knows what else - all the same girl! Who also barely spoke any English, which we tried to use Google Translate to be the translator. Felt like an episode of Fawlty Towers There was only two sets of guests staying at the hotel and we had to wait such a long time to be served to get a drink or food so found ourselves going to reception to press the bell which had varied results in getting attention. As traveling with a young son, we asked for dinner and was sharply told only from 8pm and there was only 3 things on the menu to choose from. None of which would suit a child & all were served cold (when it’s that late and you’re starving, you eat whatever!) and took over 1.5hrs to come! Very much has the potential to be something great visually, but lacks investment in staff.
When provided the room in the stable conversion, there was no bed set up for the child, which we raised with the staff member upon checking in around 4pm, this was only then offered to be set up by 10.30pm by which we time we were all tired, declined and was given another room for my partner to sleep with the child.
Breakfast was expensive, and very much self service. We were pointed to the table with platter arranged, and not to any coffee machine and again was left on our own.
Upon arriving a second time (this time just the son, the dog and myself) the very next week with the hope for a better experience, we were again sadly let down. We noticed a wedding being set up in their events space for the next day and despite suddenly lots of staff appearing out of the wood work, none of them were in the reception, bar or restaurant and were instead all hands on deck for the wedding. When eventually getting the attention of a staff member, we were again finding ourselves with lack of language so used app to translate.
Later on after using the snooker table and cinema room (which I’ll give credit to venue for having) we began checking the room out, we were given a double bedroom where there was a large mound of human hair in the shower cubicle - see picture!!! Absolutely unacceptable. When complained to a member of staff (once found one), I was just met with a shrug of shoulders and told they would clean. No real apology, although was advised it was a new member of staff to blame…
We attempted to give dinner another go, given there aren’t many other choices nearby, provided a pre order for two of us for 7pm. After being seated, we were again left in a cold room with no atmosphere/background music nor staff to wait on us. Food turned up not warm and had all the wedding guests setting up around us with boxes in all the communal spaces. Went back to the room to find a hairband on the side table- totally not a clean level of hygiene within the room. When checking out the next day, the whole hotel was running riot with each room taken up by wedding party getting ready, I’m certainly glad we didn’t participate in breakfast. When highlighting the hairband also being found, I was provided a refund on the dog fee. They also tried charging me for the room again, even though it was already paid for, then tried asking me to pay the difference on their system to Expedia. After back and forth, this was eventually agreed that the room had indeed been paid for.
Overall, no background music, no welcoming atmosphere, I wouldn’t suggest this venue shouldn’t be a hotel, it clearly does well with events and should just stay that way if it doesn’t want to look after hotel guests trying to also use it. Felt more of a hinderance than a valued returning guest.
Looking at all the other honest reviews, I can’t wait to read all the excuses from the venue and how it’ll be somehow my fault for having two bad stays.

Excellent surprise

I was looking for a stage near Amiens. Château Heloïse has met all my expectations. Recent renovation, equipment in condition and mix of contemporary and old. Welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast, nice setting. Much more than an insipid hotel chain. A big thank you

Velmi dobrá lokalita
