"come as you are" for a lovely dinner beside the river

Nerac is a brilliant town with a great saturday morning market. What a pleasure to also find an unpretentious bistro serving good quality food just a few yards from our moored boat. Good friendly service, varied menu with super fresh seafood and reasonably priced, quality local wines. What more do you need?

Good value, friendly hardworking waitress. Pleasant meal.

Such a shame that I visited on a very wet, dull, rainy day as it was only when I went on the boat trip later, that I realised the restaurant terrace overlooked the river. Lovely on a sunny day no doubt. The restaurant was very busy, the main room nearest the terrace had a very large table full of people, presumable a family or group booking. There was space for moi seule in a side room whose window faced onto the street. Not ideal as a single diner, as there were two two person tables and again, a large group round one large table so I was billy no mates. (Not unusual ;-) ).
Despite how busy the place was, I didnt have to wait long to either put in my order or receive it. I had a steak, seemed to be of the "feathered" variety which is not something we have in England, served with a "sauce" of foie gras, with carrots and potatoes. I forgot about the French steak cooking so I wasnt surprised to get a steak a little underdone by my usual standards, but it was good and I only left a tiny bit. It was surprisingly large too, and for the money I paid, 18 euros including tip, I thought was excellent value.
The restaurant doesnt score my points on decor, it is rather outdated in style but the food and bonhommie is what's most important. Would recommend for the food and convenient location, and terrace if your weather is appropriate. This review only relates to the restaurant.

Taste of Gascony on a terrace next to the Baize river

A short walk from where our boat was moored, the owner and staff wee very friendly. Small and efficient , they turn out great duck confit and nice fish as well. Two course dinners for two with desert and a bottle of local wine was 71€. So pleasant and romantic in the evening glow of the honey colored century old stone buildings. We thought this was only a restaurant, and saw no sign of a hotel.

Lovely lunch beside the river

We had a very good Sunday lunch at this restaurant beside the river. A very pretty spot. The food was very reasonably priced and what I would call traditional french..confit of duck followed by profiteroles..but well done. There seemed to be many "locals" eating there-always a good sign

nice little spot

nice lunchtime spot by the river. enjoyed a perfectly satisfactory lunch. friendly and warm service not your routine menu so a pleasant surprise there. very reasonable priced. would return especially in the summer time
