Next time longer
We were unfortunately only there one night, but the place in the forest is just great. Nice location. The sanitary facilities are simple but clean.

To start, I suggest you read the numerous comments left by customers carefully. They allow one to get a fairly precise idea of how this establishment handles this type of situation.
For our part, we unfortunately noticed that the teams seem to sometimes spend more time responding publicly to reviews than providing satisfactory answers and solutions in private, including when it comes to sanitary and health issues.
Like many other customers, we received an email only 8 days before our arrival at 6:45 PM informing us of the presence of processionary caterpillars on the site and in its surroundings.
Just by reading this email, one quickly understands that the subject is not trivial: possible presence of stinging hairs, recommended vigilance, and greater risks for people who are allergic, asthmatic, or particularly sensitive.
However:
we were supposed to come with our three children;
the problem seems to have existed for several weeks, which we discovered by consulting the reviews of previous customers;
we have a case of asthma in our family requiring daily treatment as well as a severe allergy to caterpillars;
we were abroad at the time of receiving this email, only 8 days before the stay, which obviously made the situation even more complicated to manage.
We therefore called Huttopia to find a solution.
The response was very clear: NO refund.
The only proposals made:
go to another Huttopia;
credit our Huttopia account in order to return at a later date.
But we had booked Huttopia Rambouillet, not another establishment. Explaining to us that we can go elsewhere does not, therefore, in our eyes, constitute a satisfactory solution: if we had wished to stay at another Huttopia, we would have booked it from the start.
And above all, faced with a health issue presenting a particular risk given our family situation, we expected something other than such a rigid application of the commercial terms.
We finally had to go to another site....but fortunately they gave us a commercial gesture of.....31€ (0.025% of the price of the stay)...might as well be ridiculous to the end
I sincerely hope that no serious cases are to be deplored and that this situation leads Huttopia to review its way of managing this type of alert. When a health issue is identified and customers report a particular medical situation, the consideration given to their health should, in my opinion, come before mere financial logic.
Finally, thank you to the Huttopia teams for not devoting their energy to responding publicly to this review solely to defend the image of the establishment. I would have preferred that this time and attention be given to their customers when they contact them privately to try to find a solution.

"Accueil Vélo" at Huttopia: except when you arrive by bike
After more than 4,000 km of family cycle touring, this is a first.
We arrive at Huttopia Rambouillet with our two children aged 5 and 9, four bikes, and a small tent. The campsite is full: we can perfectly understand that.
What we understand much less is the total lack of effort to find a solution.
When traveling by bike, arriving without a reservation is not a whim: weather, fatigue, the children's pace, or mechanical problems make it difficult to plan stages precisely. In campsites accustomed to travelers, even when they are full, we have always seen them look for a solution: shared space, a few square meters of grass, a bivouac area...
Here: nothing. The manager cites the rules and invites us to leave.
Finally, a solution does exist after all: a cottage for about $200 a night.
So we got back on our bikes with our children for nearly two more hours, without knowing where we were going to sleep and with the prospect of actually having to bivouac in the forest.
The experience would simply be disappointing if Huttopia didn't specifically build its communication around nature, freedom, simplicity, bivouacking, and roaming.
Even more surprising: Huttopia Rambouillet is Accueil Vélo certified. The nice repair station in front of the reception is indeed clearly visible. As for actually welcoming four cyclists in difficulty, we looked more for the concept.
The contrast with the rates charged unfortunately reinforces our impression: a few square meters of grass are impossible to find, but accommodation at €200 can immediately be offered.
We had already found Huttopia particularly expensive during a previous experience in Saumur. But here, it is no longer even the price that bothers us the most.
It is the gap between the brand promise and the lived reality.
By dint of selling nature, authenticity, and roaming while standardizing the welcome to this point, Huttopia has unfortunately given us the feeling that nature has become more of a marketing product than a true philosophy of hospitality.
Too bad. Behind the concept, we were simply four bicycle travelers, including two children, who were looking for a few square meters of grass to pitch a tent and rest.

Bonjour Romain, nous sommes sincèrement désolés de votre déception. Lors de votre arrivée, en pleine haute saison et sans réservation, le camping était malheureusement complet, y compris les emplacements dédiés aux tentes et aux cyclotouristes. Pour des raisons de sécurité et de réglementation, nous ne pouvons pas installer une tente en dehors d’un emplacement prévu à cet effet. Notre équipe a néanmoins cherché une solution et vous a proposé la seule possibilité d’hébergement encore disponible ce soir-là : une tente Trappeur. Nous regrettons qu’elle n’ait pas répondu à vos attentes. Nous entendons également votre remarque concernant notre accueil Vélo. Celui-ci témoigne de notre volonté d’accueillir les cyclotouristes, mais ne permet malheureusement pas de garantir un emplacement sans réservation. Enfin, nous regrettons que les échanges avec notre équipe aient été vécus de manière négative. Nos collaborateurs ont fait leur possible pour vous accompagner dans la limite des possibilités du camping. Nous vous recommandons, particulièrement en haute saison et lors d’un voyage en famille, de réserver vos étapes à l’avance afin de voyager plus sereinement. Nous sommes désolés que cette expérience à Huttopia Rambouillet n’ait pas été à la hauteur de vos attentes et vous souhaitons une belle continuation pour la suite de votre voyage à vélo. Alert: processionary caterpillars
The staff is friendly; there is nothing to criticize about the setting and the cleanliness of the restrooms. However, my friend and I unfortunately encountered the stinging hairs of processionary caterpillars. We left this weekend very upset because no alert was clear regarding these caterpillars: precautions had been taken (keeping away from trees that could pose a danger in this regard, wearing covering clothing (despite the heat wave)...). My friend even ended up in the hospital in the middle of the night due to the itching. Additionally, a storm marked our stay for one night, and we were not attended to by the staff who neglected the risks we faced in our tent under the trees (potential falls due to lightning and strong winds). The way clients are treated needs to be reviewed, particularly by closing or better indicating areas where caterpillars/caterpillar hairs may be present, and by offering solutions in this situation or when campers are in danger in their tents. I maintain that the staff is friendly, but one can clearly feel their lack of organization which impacts the experience of the users.

Nous informons nos clients en amont de leur séjour et réalisons des traitements réguliers sur le site. Malgré ces précautions, il est malheureusement impossible de maîtriser les poils urticants transportés par le vent.
Concernant l'épisode orageux, la sécurité de nos vacanciers est notre priorité. Dès le début de l'orage, notre équipe est intervenue pour évacuer les emplacements des tentes et a proposé aux campeurs de passer la nuit au centre de vie afin de garantir leur sécurité.

To avoid: presence of caterpillars
The setting of the camping site is pleasant, and the facilities allow for a good stay.
However, we received an email two days before our arrival indicating that there were caterpillars in the area but that no presence of processionary caterpillars was observed within the camping site. We trusted them.
However, after only one night on site, without even visiting the wooded areas or touching the trees as a precaution, all three of us developed significant skin reactions. We also noticed that many vacationers, including children, exhibited the same symptoms.
My daughter has been scratching herself until she bleeds for two days.
I find it concerning that such a serious health risk can be minimized to this extent. Vacationers deserve clear and transparent information at the time of booking so they can make informed choices.
We deeply regret this night spent at the campsite.
