Bof, first impression sets the tone!
After traveling all day in torrential rain, because far from everything, and despite the welcome, we had dinner at the cottage.
The dinner a very good soup of which 3 guests out of 5 could have an extra ladle because the owner clearly says: "enough because I have to keep some for my wife and daughter"?!!! Why doesn't he put his family's shares aside before serving us?
Then the main course of rice with vegetables cut into mini pieces... Actually there was only one tablespoon of vegetables.
The tray of 4 cheeses arrived, a small complete sheep and the other 3 were the same steps of quarter cheese!
Dessert, apple soup with maybe nougat ice cream said the owner... A small apple ramekin cut into pieces with pieces of bananas and nougat ice cream that was completely melted because he had taken them out too early... I didn't finish this dessert because I thought the fruit was gone.
Dinner cost 22 euros per person. Expensive for the amount in the stomach.
The room: Pretty good overall at first glance.
Lots of cobwebs, critters in light fixtures, no soap.
The mattresses were very good, thick.
We were on the ground floor, the hallway going to our room was a storage room, a real mess. Vacuum cleaner, cat food, dirty linen...
The next morning I take my dog out early enough. When I get back the owner tells me I didn't close the front door. And I answer him that if I had closed it properly since you have to pull up the handle for it to start. He answers this: "If it's not you it's the Italian"... What a nerve! All because a cat came home and tore the bag of kibble (not stored in a closet or in a case with a lid. I had cats jumping on the door handles to open them!!!
Breakfast: very simple, tea, coffee, bread from the day before, 3 mini mugs of jams, a portion of butter for two. There was a couple, my mother and I who had them while the Italian had nothing and dared not ask us.
There were jars containing corn petals, oatmeal and dried fruit. But be careful not to trust it, the jars were almost empty. Asked how long these foods had been there.
Outside the cottage = more maintained. Even on the entrance gate there were cobwebs.
P.S: There are no fields in front of the cottage you have to walk in the village to get there.
This is the first time I went to a gite in France and certainly the last.
I notice that the 2 star hotels are much more welcoming, clean, and stocked at breakfast.
