⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Amazing Stay – I Can't Wait to come back!
I absolutely loved my stay at Barceló Guatemala City! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how beautiful the hotel is. The elegant cherry wood throughout the lobby gives it a warm, luxurious feel, and the staff is constantly cleaning and making sure everything is spotless. The entire hotel is incredibly clean.
The beds are some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The extra-large king-size pillows, soft comforter, and cozy mattress made it so easy to relax after a long day of sightseeing. One of my favorite things was the hot water. If you're someone like me who loves a long, hot shower, this hotel is perfect. Not every hotel offers consistently hot water, but Barceló definitely does.
The food was outstanding. La Fuente offers excellent breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets with plenty of choices. They also have a fantastic sushi restaurant, and the premium burgers at Strikers Bar & Grill are to die for. It was also the perfect place to watch the FIFA games while enjoying great food and drinks.
The staff throughout the hotel was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. Even though the hotel is located right next to La Aurora Airport, you can't hear the airplanes at all, so you can enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.
The location is excellent. La Aurora Zoo is only about a 15–20 minute walk away, although taking a taxi may be easier because traffic in Guatemala City can get very busy. Plaza Obelisco Shopping Center is also within walking distance and has several shops, restaurants, and nearby attractions.
One hidden gem we found for lunch was the Shell gas station on the corner. They make fresh ciabatta sandwiches that are surprisingly delicious and very reasonably priced. There's also a La Torre supermarket about 10 minutes away where you can pick up snacks, drinks, water, or anything else you may need during your stay.
The pool and hot tub were super clean and have a pool side bar where you can enjoy any type of beverage.
Another great convenience is that they provide shuttle service to and from the airport and there's an Alamo rental car office right in the hotel lobby, plus a business center if you need to get some work done. For an additional fee, you can enjoy the minibar, and don't forget to check your closet for the comfortable bathrobes!
Overall, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed at. Everything was exceptionally clean, the food was amazing, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the staff treated us wonderfully, and the location made it easy to explore Guatemala City. I only wish Barceló had more locations in the United States because I would stay at them all the time.

Room not ready at check in time. Water not working
This hotel came highly recommended but did not fulfill expectations. We arrived shortly before 3:00 to check in and had to wait until 4:30 at which point we were given 1 of the 2 rooms we had booked, the other took even longer to get. There was no water working in the room, so no shower, no toilet etc. when the water was turned on it was scaldingly hot, and no cold water was available. Showering was impossible. It certainly did not meet the expectations we had for a recommended hotel. The furniture was stained and the lock to the balcony was faulty.

Fanastic Place for International Visitors
This is always my home away from home whenever I visit Guatemala. The rooms are well appointed and well maintained, food service is exceptional and the staff never fail to exude a courteous demeanor while promptly attending to requests. I highly recommend the Barcelo to anyone visiting Guatemala City.

Management Problems
Because I was placed on a floor with about 20 under supervised teenagers, who laughed and screamed at each other in the hallways, I was switched to another room at 11:15 at night. It took nearly an hour to be changed and the response of the employees at reception was indifference. On this same trip, I stayed at the Tikal Futura without incident and with employees who took responsibility if any issue occurred. I was deeply disappointed and was offered, at best, a tepid apology. There is a deep management and training issue at the hotel. Hospitality is really not the hotel's strong point.

Good but it is hard to rest
I think I already explained why I was very dissatisfied. Not being able to sleep at night when one has to operate an American Airlines plane the next day is a serious matter. We pilots have to be placed in exceptionally quiet rooms and without electronic maintenance issues. A night of poor rest can result in tragedy or at the very least a canceled flight.
