Super Homestay

After having shortlisted multiple properties, we zeroed on this basis reviews across platforms.
Our experience was superb.
Shekhar was in constant touch with us. Right from the moment we landed, we were well looked after
The room was a cozy one, with place to keep your luggage and knick knacks. The rooms have old fashioned wall shelves,clothes hangers on the wall and a large mirror. There is no cupboard- so keep that in mind. The geyser works everytime.
Shekhar's mom is a cook par excellence. She was rustling up dishes in 20-30 min. You just need to order lunch/ dinner about 2 hours in advance. Since a lot of their clientele is foreigners, the food has minimum oil, less spices too. Things to order: Omelette, Aloo Paratha , Chicken curry( prepared by Ashokji).
But the highlight during winters is the bonfire in the dining room. All boarders gather over the fire and there are great fireside conversations. More than birding we looked forward to these small gatherings.
We met many boarders who have been coming multiple times here.
The sanctuary itself is across the highway about 500 metres away. It's walkable but there are e e-rikhsaws available too.
This is a gem of a place. Don't miss to stay hrre

Nightmare at Jungle Lodge: Avoid this Place !!!

We had TERRIBLE experience at Jungle Lodge, where the owners greed ruined our family’s weekend trip. Booked a stay for a night and was assured of an AC room, but later informed it was unavailable. Instead, I was offered two terrace rooms that looked acceptable in the photo. Upon arrival, I discovered those were gone too, given away to other guests and we were given ground floor rooms resembling a storage space. The peeling plaster, musty smell, and dead mosquitoes made it feel like a horror movie. When I confronted the owner, he cited a “first come, first served” policy—a complete U-turn from earlier promises. Our night was filled with horror: mosquitoes invaded the room, and the electric repellent was empty. Lizards in my wife’s room forced us to switch rooms at 2 AM. After a sleepless night, I contacted Airbnb support at 2:30 AM. We left the lodge in disgust at 5:30 AM, canceling our bird sanctuary visit and the rest of our tour. What should have been a relaxing getaway turned into a nightmare. AVOID THIS PLACE!

Jungle Lodge - A Dump Hole

I was part of a photo workshop group and some of us stayed at the Jungle Lodge. This place is a dump hole. Dirty with mouse droppings on the bed and the plaster peeling off the wall. Bathroom dirty and room infested with mosquitos. I had no choice as it was part of an organized trip. Rather than complain to the workshop organizer, I just went through the three nights focusing on my objective; to gain some photography knowledge and ignore the unpleasantness offered by the Jungle Lodge. Please do not stay here.

Very rude and inconsiderate

This option seemed attractive and the reviews seemed good. So I booked via agoda.com. I only received an automated reply which had the payment details blurred (they did not receive online credit/debit cards). So I wrote to Mr Ashok on the designated email account. I received no reply even after following up. After that this skipped my mind.
Suddenly I got an email this evening telling me they were cancelling the booking unless payment received within 12 hours. Some Mr Shekhar wouldn't stop calling me on whatsapp while I was on business trip outside India. This was very rude.
I asked if the email designated in agoda.com was the correct email, and if so, why they had not responded to my requests asking for bank details for payment. No apology; no explanation. Some Mr Shekhar kept yelling at me that there is some mix up with agoda and booking.com, and they were upset the payment had not been received. This is three weeks before the booking date.
Clearly people can't send them payment unless they provide bank details!!! This might be their bad business model or their struggle with technology; I am prepared to overlook that. But their rudeness and meanness ended my goodwill for this place.
There are other better enterprises in Bharatpur who deserve a chance. Not these self-centred folks. I will never deal with these people. It's a waste of time.

we won't visit them again

I have not rated anyone as terrible etc ever. So let's call it a constructive criticism. Unfortunately there is nothing good to speak about Jungle Lodge. I quite appreciate the hard work & effort of Mr. Ashok Singh & his wife (an elderly couple) to run this homestay (as described by them). Both of them man & manage every activity. There isn't any other sole in the premises - be it maintenance, housekeeping, room service etc. This didn't seem be a feasible option to me. We reached the place around 9:30 pm. We had 3 strolley bags with us. We were booked in 2 rooms in 1st floor. The couple picked up the bags & went up the first floor. We felt bad - but we are senior citizens too. We couldn't have gone up the steep stair with the bags. I don't think if they employ required manpower, provide one small soap in the room & increase the tariff by Rs. 100 or 200, they will be out of business. Left to their prudence in this competitive market - I wish them all the best. May be they are targeting bag packers, low budget tourists. At least we won't visit them again. I have seen / stayed in several homestays in Sikkim, North east etc. Those are well equipped, manned, maintained & managed.
