Brilliant place, close to the main area of Ubud
The family home and its surrounding complex are truly amazing. The whole family lives there, creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The area itself is steeped in history, with beautiful carvings and a temple within the complex. I could easily have spent weeks simply exploring and appreciating its beauty and culture.
My room was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and a lovely place to relax after a day of sightseeing. Next door are many trees where I enjoyed watching squirrels scampering around the trees and eating Jack fruit, which was such a delightful experience.
Depi House is only a few minutes' walk from the main street, making it very convenient. There is also a wonderful Indonesian café directly across the road, owned by the aunt of Dita, who runs the B&B. The food there was delicious, and the breakfasts at Depi House were equally wonderful.
Leaving after only a few days was surprisingly emotional. I had become very fond of Dita and her family, whose kindness and genuine hospitality made me feel more like family than a guest.
Word of caution to western travellers to Bali and other Asian countries! The steps (risers) everywhere are extremely steep and there are no hand rails. I urge you to be cautious when going up & down the stairs, I really did care if I looked a bit ridiculous clambering up and down as long as I didn't fall and have an injury.
