Cliff Cabin - surreal VIP experience!

We booked the Cliff Cabin and arrived too early for our 3pm check in but Mary on reception did her best to ensure the cabin was ready well ahead of time so we really appreciated all her help! Joe showed us to our private area, where the Cliff Cabin is built within the historic ruins of the Atlantic Hotel. He allowed us to go in first to be surprised with the awesome view - what a first impression! There is an outside wood burner on your own grounds which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, and twinkling fairy lights surround this atmospheric courtyard which is magical as the sun sets and dusk sets in.
The inside of the Cabin is equally if not more magical. The view across the rocks to the Ocean is quite spectacular. The tide comes in almost to the vernada. There are 2 chairs outside where you can sit and enjoy the magnificent view. There is a wood burner inside the cabin which is gorgeous at night. Loved the luxurious wrap which I used for added warmth whilst enjoying the outside wood burner with a drink from the bar and whilst on the veranda as well .
Thoughtful extras such as chocolate, water (sparking and still) , soft drinks, snacks etc are all complimentary. Lovely tea/coffee facilities too.
The shower room was perfect / terrific shower with gorgeous Irish products - loved the smell of the body lotion. Soft fluffy towels, gowns and slippers all provided.
The Hotel is 2 mins away and we had a fantastic dinner at Aileen’s restaurant which again overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Tracey our server was so friendly and efficient. So glad I listened to Mary at Reception and ordered the side of cabbage - what a treat - not to be missed. Thanks Mary for the tip! As it was an early Anniversary treat we were surprised with a lovely dessert - so special and really unexpected.
Breakfast next morning was equally delicious- so much choice and wonderful staff to assist with any need.
We have stayed in the best Hotels in the world but this experience was really another level due to the uniqueness of the cliff cabin and how exclusive and private it was. To wake up to the Atlantic almost at the bottom of the bed was surreal. The room was surprisingly cosy and warm too. A private parking place was also an added perk.
I would encourage anyone to book this out of the world cliff cabin experience. Thank you so much to the most excellent staff at the Armada and we really hope to return to enjoy the magic again!

A beautiful hotel, ruined by an uncomfortable stay.

The Armada Hotel is a stunningly beautiful property located along the scenic Spanish Point coastline. We recently spent three nights here (15–18 July 2026) for a wedding reception.
Every corner of the hotel is immaculately clean and tastefully decorated. The staff were friendly, polite, and consistently professional throughout our stay. The ground floor features standard dining options, a large function venue, and even a charming, old-fashioned Irish pub within the complex. Having Spanish Point beach within short walking distance is a massive bonus—it makes for a fantastic backdrop for wedding photos and showcases the best of Irish culture and traditions.
We also appreciated the thoughtful use of space, such as the cozy reading areas with bookshelves along the corridors, as well as the water stations providing guest access to drinking water on demand. As for the food, the restaurant dishes were elegantly presented and delicious, and the wedding reception dinner itself was flawless—easily one of the best I have ever had at a wedding.
We stayed in a family room on the first floor, which was very clean, spacious, and equipped with a well-sized modern bathroom. The room included tea-making facilities, a coffee machine, complimentary milk, and mini bottles of liquor. While there were a few minor hitches—the iron in our room was heavily stained, and its initial replacement didn't work—the staff quickly resolved it on the second attempt with a working iron.
Our main issue during the stay was the room temperature. While we fully appreciate that July 2026 was unusually hot, the heat in our room—both during the day and especially at night—became unbearable. We understand that the lack of air conditioning may be tied to environmental and sustainability goals, but it made our stay quite uncomfortable. And the thought of having to return to the room in the evenings became torturous.
Compounding the heat, our window faced a wall housing three heavy extractor fan units, which generated constant noise and blew hot air directly toward our room. To make matters worse, we discovered that the bathroom towel rail had been left on maximum heat (which we promptly switched off), and the mini-fridge was frozen solid on freezer mode—likely from previous guests trying to cool the room down. Although the staff kindly provided an extra desk fan alongside the freestanding fan already in the room, opening the window for relief was ineffective due to the surrounding walls blocking any natural breeze. The room felt well over 30°C at night, to the point where we had to step out into the cooler hallway and stairwell areas just to catch a breeze.
Because the hotel was fully booked, moving us to another room wasn't an option. While I won't name the specific room number, I would strongly advise management to avoid allocating this particular room to families with young children during hot spells.
We completely understand that not every room can offer a good view and that overflow rooms are necessary during peak times. However, a few simple adjustments could transform this space significantly:
Window Orientation: Reversing the window opening direction toward the open road or adding another opening could allow natural airflow.
Extractor Fan Screening: Installing a green planter wall featuring plants or the hotel logo would mask the extractor units, reducing noise and improving the view.
Sun Canopy: Adding a shade canopy could deflect the direct midday sun away from the window.
On departure, the Front of House Manager at reception kindly offered us a generous and unexpected discount for our three-night stay, which we greatly appreciated.
It is a real shame about the room temperature issue, as the Armada Hotel has so much to offer. Aside from the heat experience in our room, it is a wonderful establishment, and the management’s quick action to try to make things right left a positive impression.

Dear Trip Advisor member,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your recent stay with us.
We are delighted to read your wonderful comments about our location, cleanliness, décor, and our helpful team. It is especially rewarding to hear that you found the wedding reception flawless and one of the best you have ever attended. We will be sure to share your lovely feedback with our team, who will be thrilled to know they helped make the celebration so memorable.
We are, however, very sorry that you were uncomfortable due to the exceptional heat during your stay. The unprecedented heatwave we experienced this July is certainly not something we are accustomed to here in Ireland, and we were pleased that our team could assist where possible.
We also appreciate your constructive suggestions. Feedback like yours is invaluable, and we will certainly review these ideas as we continue to improve the guest experience.
Thank you once again for recognising our team's efforts. We truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Armada Hotel in the future, under much more typical Irish weather conditions! I would like to invite you to contact me directly in advance of your next stay and I assist with your booking and room assignment to ensure you have an enjoyable experience.
We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back.
Kind regards,
Fiona Buckley Kitt,
Director of Sales and Marketing.

Hotel was lovely , staff were great , beautiful location …
The problem was we were given probably the only room in the hotel that had a few of a wall and to top it off there was a generator running outside the window constantly ..
For €336 I would have expected a room with a view even over a road not a wall & noisy generator ..

Hands down one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip!! Amazing property, amazing location and staff that went truly above and beyond for us!! We were treated like royalty as every guest was!! Can't say enough good things about this property. Sad, we were only here for 1 night!! Will definitely be staying here again when we come back to the Spanish Point area!!!

A celebrant’s experience

The Armada did it again. I recently had the pleasure of being a celebrant at a wedding in the Armada. This was my second time at this hotel. The staff were both professional and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They made my job easy and the couple’s day wonderful.
