Every bite is a taste of the sun-soaked coast of Puglia!

Balconcino d'Oriente in Otranto offers a delightful dining experience, blending rustic charm with authentic southern Italian flavors. The restaurant’s interior, tucked a few stairs down, has a cozy, cave-like ambiance that adds to its unique character. We chose to sit on the outdoor patio, which offered a charming, albeit slightly snug, street-side atmosphere.
Service was prompt and efficient, likely aiming for quick table turnover, but it didn’t feel rushed. One standout feature was the house wine—some of the best I’ve had, especially at such an affordable price - 5€. The grilled mixed meat was well-cooked and flavorful, though a lemon wedge would have enhanced it further. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the stuffed eggplant, which was rich and comforting.
One thing I loved about dining in southern Italy, including here at Balconcino d'Oriente, is that I could always ask for hot fresh peppers, and they were happily provided. Overall, it was a great experience with authentic flavors, quick service, and a cozy vibe. Definitely a place to try if you’re in Otranto! Saluti

Nice place, good Salento dishes

Nice place, quiet and comfortable, dishes up to the Salento tradition with normal prices; worth mentioning are the maritati with sauce and meatballs, the orecchiette with chicory, cacioricotta and chopped frisella, and the stuffed aubergines.

Excellent

Tucked away just outside city walls Fabulous food and service . Mainly meat options . Ate pork in a plum/ wine jus and chicken . House Rose was delicious . Italian locals eating there . Loved it . Bill was 50 euros !
Highly recommend .

Outstanding

We have been coming to Otranto for 20 years. There are lots of restaurants in the town but they are generally the same and slightly expensive. This is probably the best place we have ever been to.
Creative dishes, local food, nice venue and actually quite cheap. Highly recommended. Otranto is also terrible for vegetarian food but this was also excellent

Good plain fare

This restaurant has outside tables to the rear which are not obvious to first-timers and which are more comfortable than the few tables out front on a busy road. My wife and I shared a sample of 9 local specialities which was a great way to taste regional dishes. We opted for pasta mains which were fine...but the meats looked great on adjoining tables. Service was efficient and friendly. Prices were very reasonable.
