The rooms were clean and the staff was kind. They have an awesome rooftop restaurant and bar which is worth a visit. There also is a full gym, which was a plus for us. It did cost 9€ per person but it’s a legit gym with good equipment.
If you’re coming from Roma Termini, the hotel is just a short distance away and you can walk to the Colosseum from the hotel. We’d definitely stay at The Hive again!

Fine for a Quick Stay, But Expectations Should Be Low

My husband and I stayed here for the first half of our honeymoon. Location is 8-10 mins away (walking) from the train station and around 20 mins from colosseum. The hotel lobby is extremely outdated. The marble is nice and gives the appearance of “luxury” but all of the furniture is filthy, old and to be honest- disgusting.
Now for our room… they put us on the ground floor closest to the lobby and directly next to a storage closet. Not only could we hear other guests entering and exiting the building all night, the janitor sounded like they were banging on the walls since 6am. Opening trash bags, mopping, laundry, we heard every step of their routine and could not sleep with all of the noise. I’m a heavy sleeper and am young so I don’t usually mind a little noise but this was BAD.
Cleanliness was below average. I would say the sheets seemed to be clean (I hope), but the walls were filthy and there appeared to be mildew/mold buildup in several areas of the shower and overall maintenance/cleanliness felt below average.. Bed and pillows were comfortable, tv worked great and we did not have any issues with hot water. All in all, this works fine for budget travelers. Gets the job done but I slightly hoped for better.
Side note: lobby staff was nice, had no issues with them. We didn’t complain until checkout because we were only staying 2 nights and were only there to sleep.

For the rate that we paid, i had a different set of expectations. the hardware in the bathroom was rusted, the water on the shower pooled up to the top of the step, it smelled like smoke and they did not have an iron (they had a hand held steamer with a 1 hour use limit). None of the shower gel pumps were working so we had to use the one in the shower to wash our hands. The stopper in the tub did not work. overall it was an unpleasant experience.

Disappointing

It was hard to believe what was taken from my room.
We were in Rome for my birthday and my grandchildren had clubbed together to get me some earrings - when I was packing I realised they were missing- also cleaner had been through my toiletries and taken an item. I thought it was unusual to clean the room at 8am as I hadn’t even checked out and no sign of cleaners trolley on my floor. It’s come to something when you have to lock up your toiletries- never again. Am still upset.

Top evening

Top food: Both the carbonara and the steak were excellent.
Top staff: Very friendly, helpful, kind, and pleasant staff.
Location: very nice and elegant terrace. Breathtaking view of the basilica of St. Mary Major
