Taormina is fantastic!
I would like to start this review by saying that this holiday as a whole was a 5 star experience! Taormina is an absolutely amazing place - probably my favourite destination. The hotel is good and ideally located but it just fell short of a 4 star experience for me. Don’t get me wrong it is perfectly acceptable with many positives but there were a few niggles.
The Hotel.
A very impressive structure with a hint of old Italian class. Every communal area and rooms are clean. The pool is amazing with views that will blow your mind. If you have mobility issues then this hotel or even Taormina itself might not be for you. It is situated on a steep hill with a 2-3 minute walk to the pool area. We only ate breakfast at the hotel which was varied and delicious and we were always greeted with a smile. My main issue was with additional charges for the tiny pouches of coffee and bottles of water we used in the room. Ok so they weren’t expensive but I think complimentary coffee and water is standard from a hotel with a 4 star rating.
Location
The location of this hotel is perfect. Situated at the end of the Corso Umberto it is ideal for an evening stroll to select one of the multitude of restaurants for dinner. Taormina is stunning. Beautiful squares and views at every turn. If you like to frequent the beach then this probably isn’t the right hotel for you either as it is a 20 minute walk to the cable cars to take you there. I think when you are selecting a hotel in Taormina then it is preferable to decide if you prefer a night in the town or a day by the beach as trying to do both daily would be a challenge and quite expensive.
Overall, this has been a brilliant holiday which was just slightly overshadowed by some minor costs that could quite easily be avoided with some TLC from the hotel itself.

Excellent stay
We have just returned from Excelsior Palace hotel.
The staff are all amazing, especially Rosy in the restaurant and bar.Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent with lots of choices, excellent sea food, daily specials. Nothing disappointed.
Daily breakfast had a vast array of choices.
The room was comfortable and had a balcony with a view over Etna and the sea.
The pool area and grounds are exceptional, towels provided,amazing views.We always got a sunbed.
Would highly recommend
Close to town but a quiet oasis.

Splendid.
I will not tell you about the rooms, the location, or the additional services. I will tell you about the true wealth of this hotel: the employees.
Professional, attentive, polite, thoughtful. Ms. Angela, 5-star bartender Lucio, Ambra, and Mr. Fabio. The splendid, kind, and cheerful lady at the pool (I don't remember her name) who single-handedly "fills" the environment with warmth, thus making up for the sadness of the "thin and tall" lifeguard (he must surely have problems with his girlfriend). As for the others, including the reception, I don't remember or don't know their names and I apologize, but you are all great. Goodbye.
P.S.: if Mr. Fabio smiled a little more, I'm sure he would be kidnapped.

"Very disappointing stay – unfriendly reception and lack of professionalism"
Very disappointing stay – lack of friendliness, missing service, and unprofessional treatment of guests
I had booked a room at the Excelsior Palace Hotel for 15 days. Unfortunately, my stay was marked by several disappointing experiences from the very beginning.
The biggest problem for me was the treatment at the front desk. Unfortunately, I missed friendliness, helpfulness, and a professional way of dealing with guests. Instead of solution-oriented support, I repeatedly experienced a distant, unfriendly, and partially arrogant attitude.
Already on the second day of my stay, I reported that the Wi-Fi in my room was not working. I was informed that a technician would take care of it. However, nothing happened. After two more days, I turned to the front desk again and reported the problem once more. Again, I was assured that a technician would come. To this day, the problem has not been resolved.
The room door also sticks significantly and can only be opened with great force. I also reported this problem to the front desk. Here, too, no fix has been provided so far.
Parking situation
Another point concerns the parking situation. My partner visited me during my stay and parked the car in the parking lot belonging to the hotel. Last Sunday, we were suddenly informed that no parking space was available anymore and that we would have to park the car in a public parking garage instead.
If my partner visits me during my hotel stay and can park the car in the designated hotel parking lot, I expect a clear and reliable policy. It was particularly disappointing that suddenly no parking option was available to us and no reasonable alternative was offered by the hotel.
Two unused nights
Another point disappointed me greatly: I paid for the entire stay for 15 days. For personal reasons, I was not at the hotel for two nights and therefore asked at the front desk if these two nights could be canceled or at least taken into account accordingly.
The answer was merely a curt "No." What was particularly disappointing was not just the refusal, but above all the way my request was handled. There was no understandable explanation, no accommodation, and no attempt to find a fair solution together.
Treatment of my partner
The situation regarding my partner was also completely incomprehensible to me.
I was at the hotel alone for part of my stay. My partner had only brought me to the hotel. Nevertheless, he was told at the front desk that as my partner, he was not allowed to enter the hotel and could not even accompany me to my room.
Of course, I accept a hotel's house rules and respect regulations, provided they are clearly communicated. In this case, however, I was given no understandable explanation. I found the way this rule was communicated to be extremely unfriendly and inappropriate.
Conclusion
I am aware that technical problems or organizational difficulties can occur in a hotel. What is decisive, however, is how such problems and, in particular, the guests are treated. This is precisely where I unfortunately had very negative experiences during my stay.
Problems reported multiple times were not resolved. My concerns were not taken seriously, and I repeatedly had the impression that there was no genuine interest on the part of the front desk in finding a solution.
At times, I even felt treated as if I had done something wrong, even though I was merely a paying hotel guest pointing out existing problems and asking for assistance.
I have been here for a week now, and the repeated unfriendliness, the lack of support, and the unprofessional handling of my concerns have significantly impacted my stay.
From a hotel of this category, I would have expected significantly more professionalism, hospitality, respect, and customer orientation.
My conclusion: The individual problems would have been quite understandable to me if they had been addressed, if I had been taken seriously as a guest, and if they had at least tried to offer appropriate solutions. Particularly disappointing, however, is the combination of unresolved problems and what I consider to be unprofessional behavior at the reception.
For me, this stay is therefore unfortunately a major disappointment. Based on these experiences, I cannot recommend this hotel.
