I enjoyed the hot springs slowly.

The couple enjoy the hot spring inn. This time I stayed at Oyayu Onsen. They welcomed us comfortably, and the foreign staff jokingly enjoyed our room and listened to the explanation of the facility. I booked a free 30-minute private outdoor bath and was taken to my room. The room was renovated and well-cleaned, and I was able to spend a pleasant time. The public bath was clean with tatami mat floored indoor bath and open-air bath, and the outside temperature was low, so I was able to relax in the warm hot spring. The 30 minute reserved open-air bath was usually women-only and seemed to be a private open-air bath at night, which was too big for two couples. The meal was delicious both morning and evening with creative dishes produced locally for consumption. It is a hot spring inn I want to revisit again.

We had a wonderful time staying at the hotel. Hotel provided excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner, free welcome drink. The hot bath was wonderful with views of the river and forest. The room was beautifully decorated. We will definitely want to come back again next year!

It is a Very elegant hotel located in a valley with a creek passing. They provide a variety local meal. The lobby and lounge + library are impressive. A good place for a break from metropolitan busy life.

It was an amazing stay with my boyfriend and we enjoyed the private open air onsen. The experience of having Japanese traditional Kaiseki dinner was wonderful and delicious.
The journey to the place has winding roads, do be prepared for those who has motion sickness.

A perfect inn located in the backdrop of Tateshina heights

Every corner of the reception lounge ( Library lounge) and corridors were filled with cabinets full of books from various publishers. It was a heaven for book worms like us. But not just books, but there were other factors that enabled us to enjoy the stay at this inn.
(1) Books and more books
Honestly you could spend hours and hours browsing books in the Library lounge, just forgetting time. The website has a mention of over 30,000 books at this inn and interesting artefacts that the owner’s family, the Yanagisawas have collected over many generations.
(2) Top notch service
I think we were almost treated like members of the Royal/ Imperial family. As soon as we arrived at the inn after 30 minute bus ride from Chino Station, each guest was personally escorted and ushed into an ambient library lounge by staff. In our case, a friendly Russian staff welcomed us in a very fluent Japanese in cordial manner. While the rooms were being prepared, he checked us in and served us with drinks of our choice whilst waiting at a very ornate and yet comfy large sofa overlooking the vast forestry land, which was part of this inn. Once the room was ready, he escorted us to the guest room explaining the general information about the facility, dinner and breakfast etc before leaving us wishing us a good stay at the inn. I am not sure if we would get the same level of service like this had we stayed in a premium hotel such as the Savoy.
(3) Guest room
We couldn’t find any fault with the guest room we stayed in. We asked for a quiet floor and were allocated a standard room at the end of the building, which was what we booked. We didn’t have any issues with the noise coming from next door guest room either, so that was a relief. It’s a nice touch that even in the room there was a stack of books being installed in a little alcove. The only concern was that the room was situated not far away from a stream when we looked down from the window and the stream was gushing downwards, making quite overwhelming noise in the background. Despite that, we had a good night sleep.
(4) Onsen
For ladies, there were many choices from a standard communal large bath with annexed open air bath, a bath with planetarium ceiling and outdoor onsen baths ( for rentals). When I went in to the large communal bath, there was hardly anyone and I enjoyed the bath all to myself until another guest came in. The only criticism I would provide about Onsen baths is that some guests didn’t close the doors properly. When I came in, the door to the bath was half ajar. Later on I saw one female guest came in but soon afterwards she ran back into the changing room to fetch something and returned back to the bath. She left the door wide open after getting back into the changing room. Obviously this lady didn’t know any etiquette when using a communal bath like this. The door must be closed properly whether or not you temporarily want to get back into the changing room. There was already a signage for foreign guests who possibly do not know how to bathe in communal Onsen such as this, and I think they should include this point ( close the door properly after entering and leaving the bathroom).
(5) Dinner and breakfast
Each guest was escorted into an individual room to dine and we enjoyed the food in privacy looking over a lovely view of the nature through the window. The food served there were excellent and I believed they were sourced locally. The taste was perfect and not too salty. We particularly enjoyed seasonal delicacies such as grilled Ayu (sweetfish) and soya laced soup/tofu.
We would have loved to explore around the back garden, had we had more time to spend at the inn. But we immensely enjoyed our stay here and we would love to come back again.
