Kushimoto is home to Misaki Lodge Nishida. Kushimoto Ohashi Bridge and Turkish Warship Distress Monument are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range and Yoshino-Kumano National Park. Kushimoto Marine Parc and Susami Crustacean Aquarium are also worth visiting.

Great location for sunsets

Misaki Lodge is right near the lighthouse which is amazing for sunsets. My room (I paid for a dorm room but I had the room all to myself) overlooked the ocean and it was amazing to wake up to such a beautiful view. Dinner was delicious with wonderful fresh seafood variety. It's more expensive than a normal hostel by quite a bit, but definitely a wonderful place to stay.
Rooms come with a TV, a sink, mirror, and drying rack for clothing.
Make sure to go to the room, where there is seating to relax and take in the scenery.

Great place: room view over the ocean, great food, friendly management

The lodge faces the Pacific Ocean near cape Shionomizaki, the southernmost point in Honshu. It works both as ryokan and as youth hostel. I booked the youth hostel and got a very spacious tatami room with a view over the ocean. I was alone in the room. It is Japanese style accommodation, with futon over tatami mat and a very spacious separate common bathroom for the afternoon / evening bath. The youth hostel wing of the lodge is older, but is very well kept and clean. There is a nice terrace roof terrace with tables and benches and a good view. The lodge is managed by a family who is very friendly and the food I had on both evening was absolutely fantastic, with a choice of different kind of fish. A great place for relax, rest and explore Cape Shinomisaki and the island of Ise Oshima.

Fantastic, if you don't mind creepy crawlies, and a bit of price.

Stayed here to visit the nachi falls fire festival the next day.
Judging by the scale of the map, it's easy to mistake the distance between station and lodge as a brief walk. When we phoned to say we were running late, (was getting close to midnight), the owner offered to pick us up from the station, and I'm glad we accepted the offer, because even the drive was long. We weren't told until after wards that he charged for it (1000yen I think). It was also one of the most expensive places we stayed at, given very little service.
We got to the room, traditional style with small table, tv, and sleeping on the floor, oh and the occasional small cockroach (free bug spray in every room). You might want to be careful not to step on something as you go out to the bathroom though. This place is really out in the sticks though, so creepy crawlies can only be expected, and as long as they aren't genuinely venomous they don't bother me. Since we arrived at night and couldn't see anything around, we were in for a shock when we woke up to an amazing view. You can walk up onto the roof or the nicely done-up sea front to get a full panoramic of the jungle behind and dazzling blue sea crashing on the rocks, littered with anything from small fishing boats nearby to large cruise liners in the distance.
As I said, it's a bit out in the sticks, away from the main village, so you need to make sure you can arrange transport to/from the train station, there's a bus service which runs frequently during the day, but at night the taxis in the station car park are your only choice.
The village itself is a bit sleepy, it's predominantly a fishing town, nothing special, but the further around the coastline, the Nachi Falls, pagoda and surrounding view is spectacular, and there's also a museum dedicated to a turkish ship wreck, it's a bit of a long bus drive out, probably only worth it if you're into maritime history or are stranded in the area and have nothing better to do.
In summary: Fantastic wake up view, the only lodge reasonably near to Nachi Falls, bit pricey (with extras for internet and food), with a private pick up service from the station if you need (also not free, but still cheaper than taxi). A little remote if you depend on public transport, local village of Kushimoto isn't all that exciting. That said, it's the only place where I managed to find a super market in my travels around Japan, and there were two right next to each other!

非日常のほっこり宿

タイトルの通り、毎年、来ていますが、仕事頑張って来たくなる不思議な宿です。
ロケーション、料理、サービス、価格のどれをとっても素晴らしく、１度、宿泊
すれば、必ずリピーターになる居心地のいい宿です。

アットホームで、気楽に泊まれます。

潮岬にある民宿です。ただ、リニューアルされており、部屋も、風呂もとてもきれいだした。食事は、刺身がとても新鮮ですし、他のものもとても美味しくいただけました。家族でやっておられ、とても気さくで、気楽でした。部屋からは、太平洋が一望でき、多くの船が行き交っていました。天候に恵まれず、夕日も朝日も星空も見ることができませんでした。残念でした。潮岬までは、串本駅から、町営バスが出ていますが、その本数は少ないため、JR利用の観光客は少ないようです。以前は、いくつもの旅館、民宿があったようですが、今は、ここだけのようです。ただ、宿泊予約に不備があったり、ワイファイがうまく通じなかったり、改善の余地があります。
