Very Modern but Traditional Atmosphere/Great Seasonal Dishes

Our group (two couples) enjoyed a one-night stay in twin-bedded rooms with beautiful ocean views from sitting areas (with sofas) and from the beautifully-styled, in-room baths, with nice amenities provided and towels.
The thin-screened televisions had local channels, and there was a lock-drawer-style safe in the room. There was a small refrigerator (no freezer section) in our room. The long-style closet was well-stocked with wooden hangers and was nice for hanging long skirts/dresses.
The larger public baths had amenities (Shiseido and Pola), toothbrushes, shower caps, hair brushes, razors, and thick towels.
There is also a rooftop, two-bath(one square/one large wooden bowl) public bathing area.
The common dining area had a nice decor with private-seating (enclosed areas for individual groups, with their respectively-assigned serving staff). The numerous Japanese-style, seasonal dishes were enjoyed by everybody. Note that you should inform the reservation clerk about any food allergies you have in advance because they will try to meet your needs.
We brought our own wine, so the uncorking fee was ¥2,100/bottle.
Even though the front of the inn is not impressive at all, once you enter the lobby area, there is a longish hallway that leads into a very modern and comfortable seating area that overlooks an impressive ocean view. It feels as if one is falling off the ocean horizon.
There is free fresh coffee(two types of beans) and tea bags in the off-the-lobby seating area, which was great for early risers. We enjoyed taking very early baths on the rooftop just before having breakfast: wearing the provided Japanese-style outfits: Ask in advance for a larger-sized set if needed. Note that you might want to carry your own slippers if shoe size is larger than Japanese-size 24.
This is a very nice inn for a one-night stay because it is not too far away from Kamogawa Sea World.
This is a very nice location for a one-night stay because it is not too far away from the Kamogawa Aquarium. Discount tickets to the aquarium were provided as part of a package plan for this inn, so do some research to find out which reservation sites offer this. It saved our group some money on the entrance fee to the very enjoyable aquarium.

Fantastic Dinner, but.. that's it.

I stayed at this hotel/ryokan with my sister and her husband. The weather was unfortunately rainy, which made us a bit disappointed, which was one of the main attraction staying at this place. To be honest, the "big bath" was not big enough: the washing place was just for 5 - 6 people. Moreover, I could not recognise the quality of hot springs. The dinner was on the contrary beyond our expectation, having big portion of sashimi, lobster, red snapper, etc. We really enjoyed the dinner. All in all, it was a good stay but not more than that.

Horrible - noisy, old, cruel (sic!)

We stayed here after reading many positive reviews from Japanese reviewers, here and on other websites. I cannot believe the positive average. Service is disorganized. Had to follow up by phone a couple of times to get details sorted that we had requested by email (with no response on email). The building is old and poorly laid out. Stairs are steep with no elevators available. Rooms are rather shabby, especially given the price. The worst thing by far however is that there is zero sound insulation. You hear the neighbours, you hear the service personnel lugging their stuff up and down the stairs (from 5:00am) you hear the guy above trotting around his room, you hear doors banging down the hall. I got only five hours of sleep and we checked out one day early. The reception people did not find this unusual so I guess there must have been others doing the same. No manager showed up to express regret.
Another warning: the culinary specialty in this place is the "Dancing Lobster". The lobster (or, more precisely, Ise-Prawn) dances because it is grilled alive right in front of you. I have no idea how they can get away with this kind of totally unnecessary cruelty. Perhaps most Japanese guests don't care or perhaps they don't want to confront the hotel about it?
It is difficult to find good accomodation along the eastern side of Boso peninsula, especially south of Onjuku, and truth be told that's quite alright because there is really no reason to come here in the first place. Japan is a beautiful country with countless places to visit that are outstanding. This area around Kamogawa does not count among them. We went once and will never go again. It is crowded, the towns are ugly and so are the beaches. If it is beach life you seek, look to Shimoda on the Izu peninsula.
